Who the hell is that Harvard guy?

Ok, but I guess you could almost train like a pro with 20hours at the office. With a degree from Harvard, a part time job should be possible. So a part time job because of athletic career should cut it at an interview.

I also think you have to have so much passion for running to even be competitive at the diamond leauge that you would give up your job/career without thinking about it.

I don't think many Harvard graduates only work 40 hour weeks, especially not right out of school.

Leakos has been dealing with a leg injury since October, and it apparently acted up again during that last 2km stretch.

Why the hell wouldn't you take the chance to be a pro runner given the opportunity. We all spent 8+ years of our lives running and training as our main activity outside of school, and if someone offered you the chance to REALLY give running a shot with no outside distractions, who wouldn't take it? Anyone lecturing him about the job market when he's 22 years old doesn't belong on this site. He will probably get a shot to RUN for a LIVING. It doesn't get better than that.

It's 100% sour grapes. Those people know if they were fast enough to be a pro runner they would give up their office jobs in a heartbeat.

Most schools will allow you to use their career resources even a few years after you graduate. So he could probably run for 3ish years and still come back and interview on campus.

And having a Harvard degree and running pro a few years will pass off great in an interview! That's definitely an interesting story and like other posters said, shows passion.

Although graduate degrees at Harvard may confer some career advantages (less than advertised), you vastly overrate the significance of an undergraduate Harvard degree.

Whether at Oregon or Harvard, everything depends on what you studied and how much you learned. Rather than preening at interviews over his Harvard graduation, Korolev has a better shot at doing something he is manifestly good at.

Looks like he has another of XC and indoor available, but he's not going to run for Harvard? What about transfer eligibility rules? RS = redshirt, what does OU mean?

Seems like if he's going to go pro (and graduate) he might as well just go pro after the spring.

Ivy league doesn't allow 5th years, so he can't come back and run for Harvard. I don't think there are transfer rules if you graduate and go to grad school.

Correct, there is not, as long as you discuss it with the compliance offices (from personal experience).

Ok , great lets hope he goes to the roads and really become's a pro , given his current track times , he would be wasting his time and would not get a pro deal.

Going to the roads young and early he may show value and get something. He can look at the current group of elites that have moved on to the road after track careers and are just average road racers in the scope of things.

Plenty of jobs out there for qualified grads. he should pitch the part time work thing at a corp and be able to allow training. Or USATF sets up a development program for emerging athletes that pays them to train , gives use of oly training center , allows athlete to make get to a level of sponsorship by a shoe company.

Or as the brits have done with Alberto have USATF hire an advisor to set up elite development program. We have the Al right here , Nike is USATF sponsor and they could not even tie the two together.
