Good for you, tough guy, why the hell would we care?
I think it's called 'perspective', genius

I just heard him talking on an interview tonight and he said he once ran from Santa Monica to Denver, covering 40 miles a day for 4 months straight, 4800 miles. That'd be a rather roundabout route though, maybe he meant 40 days or 1600 miles. Either way, dude is obviously as serious a runner as anyone so I definitely believe his mileage total.
But before tossing out the big mileage stories to give the interviewer what she wanted, he initially answered her "how far do you run" question by saying he runs around 30 minutes a day, enough time for him to do intervals to stay in shape for his competitions at 800 and 1500 meters. So he's not just a mileage hound.
It's okay...Instead of generally referencing "an interview," you are allowed to say you heard Dern interviewed on NPR's Fresh Air show. Be confident; be proud.
Now, the ultraconservative nut-jobs on this forum will take the opportunity to call you a bleeding liberal, but what the heck do they know. They think Fox News is fair and balanced.
Great interview, by the way.

Props to Dern for sticking with running for more than 50 years.
Yes it is, idiot. The OP was wondering how many people were coming close to approaching this mileage. It was perfectly relevant for someone to point out that they were at 50,000 already by their thirties.
You guys are stupid.
Yes they are.
I ran in Boulder with Bruce, Deek, BJ, Simeon Kigan. Bruce must have been at least late 40's and kept up with the group no problem. Never said a word.

Also, does running make your dick smaller?
If you haven't noticed...

I sure hope it does, because it is not easy carrying around that superfluous appendage.

"I wonder how many people here will come close to 100,000 miles in their life"
He was so funny in the movie The Burbs.
Heard his 50 mile PR is 7:02.

To give you an idea, that would be about 5.7 miles every day for 50 years. Of course it is possible, but I wonder how many people here will come close to 100,000 miles in their life. Of course, most people don't care to try or even keep track...
30plus years ago I read that Dern ran 6miles a day on average.
I wouldn't doubt him, he's been avid for a long time, pre running boom.
Indeed he has. I remember all the way back to about '75 when he was doing distance events on the track. I still rememeber a photo from the time where he was wearing the old Nike Interval spike. Anyone here remember those?
