Here's to that!
Here's to that!
No one in the US has run 13:15 so far this year.

Maybe you should try using just one handle jackass (not James Thie)?
Marti did mention how much range Tollefson has because she won an NCAA cross title, which according to him was 6 miles!
This is the only handle I use.
Mouse trap, how's it hanging - BRUTHAH?

CORRECT! I was playin' all of your collective asses liike fiddles. I knew malmo was being a usual dick, and I knew you assholes would try to rip me a new one. HA HA HA!
Jokes on you, prick.
good job, mousetrap.
13:15 in 1977, Liquori is his name
I think it has gone without mention so far, but at the 1996 women's "mini-marathon" 10K in Central Park, Marty personally took care of a "thug on the course" incident that was the closest thing I've seen to what happened in yesterday's marathon. Tegla Lorupe was leading well into the race when a burly teenager jumped on to the course to harass her. Marty ordered the camera car to stop, pinned the thug against the port-a-potties and held him for the late arriving motorcycle cops. Too bad he wasn't close enough to take care of yesterday's bozo.
Mike Keough wasn't called "Squirrel"...Pete Squires was the one and only Squirrel....
sorry...Keogh..not Keough
Consider the source!!
Doing color for track and field is not the easiest thing in the world to do... a marathon is even more daunting. I speak from 25 plus years of experience in the biz plus a number of stints behind the mic myself at meets myself. Is Marty great?!? No! Is he awful?!? No! I think Marty brings enough knowledge to the table and information to hold up his end of the deal. As far as American television, I have never heard anyone do color for track and field that made me sit up and take notice other than Dwight Stones. I've got some stuff on tape from the 64 trials, 68 and 72 Olympics and the color commentary makes Carol Lewis look like a superstar.
The problem is that our expectations are built on the great color commentators we get from football, baseball and basketball. Outside of Dwight there are no John Madden's or Bill Walton's out there to give that intensity and insight to the sport that we all crave.
side question...
do you have any tape from '76 trials/Games or 80 Trials/Games....thanks
I loved his comments about El G eating candy bars and running 63 second laps....
Geb Kerfleski could run the hell out of a 12 mile half marathon in my opinion. TerGOT would have his hand full.
T&F fans for the most part are so desperate for TV coverage of any sort they seem to be willing to accept the mediocre commentary skills of Carol Lewis, Larry Rawson, Marty Liquori, etc al. Shame on you.
Give me an example of how you would commentate or even who you would like to hear commentate in the US? Just wondering what would appease you?
Keogh went to Manhattan College, where he ran for Freddy Dryer, Liquori's high school coach. Jumbo was much better.
That would be Fred Dwyer....I think Fred Dryer was a Football/TV star..
