Could Lebron James Break 5 in the Mile?

Think people. It's common for middle school runners to hit 5:15. I think LeBron James would beat them handily. He's in elite shape, has run a 4.4 40, & my earlier post shows 7-1 Spencer Hawes has run 5:23.

Michael Jordan ran sub 5 in UNC'S preseason mile. Granted he was 220 or so. You put guys like him and Lebron in a competitive situation and they will surprise you.

8 X 0:30 = 4:00

7 X 0:15 walk = 1:45

==> 5:45 for this run/walk mile.

When he was 21 and more svelte yes easily. now that he is 260 lbs it would be very tough. Depends on how much you think basketball is aerobic vs anaerobic.

That's me except Lebron is faster out of the blocks. I'm tall and thin and he's taller and a lot heavier. He might be a bit slower at 400+ without training.

7'1"/250 = .34 height-to-weight ratio. That's well less than .38. And 5:23 is quite a ways from sub 5. Of course that 5:23 might not have been his limit?

I wonder where they run this team mile. I remember in high school that the soccer guys routinely ran under 10 minutes for their "two mile" run before practice. We had a field day in the fall after XC was over and none of them broke 18m in the 5k. It turns out that they were running on the grass around the field instead of the track.

Between drills, we used to run a "mile" around the gym in wrestling which included running up into the stands, so I have no idea how they measured it.

This answer's it for me. Michael Jordan > Lebron James, so if MJ's barely breaking 5 minutes for the mile, Lebron would be lucky to break 6.

Lol, Ilgauskas ran a 5:16? No way that was a full mile.

You guys are ridiculous. Lebron could never break 5:00. He couldn't even break 6:00. He's an elite-level basketball player, but he would be a mediocre track athlete (on a high school girls' team).

Bird ran a 5 mile road race in 32 minutes. I suspect Lebron might have a similar aerobic profile. That might be around 5

You do realize that 8x200 is 1600m and an extra 2 minutes of walking is about 200m.... so that's 5:45ish for 1800m....farther than a mile. I don't know about you, but I move when I walk.

Pretty good. I would say 11.4 100 meters

I watched Ewing and other guys on the Knicks in the 90s work out at UCSD struggle to run 1:40+ for 400m on the track.

Heck, even Dan O'Brien had a hard time running a 5 minute mile.

4:59 is a very good time, if not great, for a high school girl. I don't think you realize how talented some high school girls are.

I'd be surprised if Lebron James could break 6 minutes for a mile. I think that distance runners don't realize how far a mile is to someone not used to running distances.

Soccer players are closer in build to distance runners and could probably go sub 5 min with little problem, but not tall, heavy basketball players.
