Ah, Ok, if you're talking about who has demonstrated the best range so far between Kipchoge and Bekele, then sure Kipchoge has it. But I'm not sure that that's a fair comparison until Bekele has actually succeeded or failed at the marathon.

Wanjiru set the half record more than once I think.

How is Tergat in this discussion at all? Did he ever compete at anything under 5000? The others have gone all the way to 1500m.

Tergat hit 7:28 in the 3k.

Besides, 12:49 to 2:04:55, at an era when almost no one else was hitting those times, and also his world records at the 10k, HM and Marathon -- the dude had range.

The essential criteria I'm looking at here is world class at more than one range of distances, i.e. long road races and middle distance track races. Tergat has to have a high ranking there. He was the mold. Geb just surpassed him.

Well then including Tergat makes sense

Kipchoge is great. He is one of my favorite runners. It is good to see him run so well in the marathon.

One thing I would note is that he ran 2:04 and 2:05 after a few years pf topping out at mid 12:50 and 26:50 in the 5000 and 10000. Mosop is similar. People should refrain from asserting that 2:03-2:05 guys can run low 12:40s and 26:20 if they want to do so. It assumes too much.

Those guys are great talents with great range and they never ran those times.

Others like Kipsang, Kipsang, Makau amd Mutai are great marathoners and half marathoners, but lets not assume they would medal in the 5 and 10.

He ran 12:46. If that's topping out at mid 12:50, then you're correct.

Kipchoge has run 12:46 and medaled at the 5000m on more than one occasions. He has a pretty good 10000m pr as well and was and still would be a medal threat at the 10000m. Wanjiru was a 10000m monster and moved right on to the marathon. Anyone running a 2:04 would easily be a 10000m medal threat.

Hm, ever heard of Haile Gebrselassie? 6 consecutive 10k titles followed by a bronze and a silver and two times more in the top 6 at the Olympics.

Bekele after his 6 titles has had a dnf, a 4th at the Olympics and didn't qualifie the next time.

Just looking on the 10k championships, Gebrselassie clearly is ahead of Bekele. For sure this also is not the end of the story, but your statement definitely is not true.
