Last thread I started people said 170 was fat.
If 5'10 170 pounds is fat BMI=24= normal. Then this place is fully of emaciated nerds. GSP is 5'10 170
http://www.whitegadget.com/pc-wallpapers/141696-gsp.htmlNow I see why anorexia is so prevalent in this sport. No guy 5'10 should weigh less than 160, Men Need muscle mass, women find it attractive.
I'm 5'11" and 143. Does this make you upset?

Due to the fact that I am not 18 and I do not attend house parties like a tool, I am not really worried about some random person disrespecting me or my girlfriend. Especially not to the point where I would need to fight to defend my/her honor. In fact, I cannot think of a single instance when this has ever happened.
No kidding.
Not to mention if you're actually concerned about defending yourself, a little practical knowledge is much more useful than (let's be honest) 10 more lbs of muscle and 10 more lbs of fat.
I think that unless you're a total gym rat, 5'10 and 170 is pretty soft. And if you are a gym rat, then you don't look like a grown-up. Of course, hardly anybody is going to be 5'10 and 130 unless they have a very unusual skeletal architecture (albeit one that's far overrepresented in distance running).

6'2" just hit 148 that a BMI of 19.0 bro, and I still have excess fat around my abs...studying for boards no time for ab workouts...sad but true. I ran at 164 in HS got down to 147 in college and it made all the difference. No comparison when it comes to performance. My best teammates had even lower BMI's. Kiprop has a BMI of 18.0. I still beat up on my little brothers who got me by 20 and 40 lbs because I am fit and knowing how to fight makes all the difference.
Just wait until you get out into clinicals and you see people with BMI's of over 60...it makes you want to vomit...in a bolemic way.
I think the OP should take some karate classes might help your confidence too ya fatty
there is no way a girl would pick a 5'10 150 guy over a 5'10 170 guy if they both have comparable body fat. And like I said Im at 10%.

Agree absolutely. Girls always pick their mates by placing them on scales. Heavier always wins.
OP:
maybe 5'10" at 170 isn't fat, but it is very close to what would be an above average BMI (add 10-15 more pounds and your right above that 24 mark). It is also definitely not an ideal weight for runners because the limbs aren't long enough to know what to do with that added weight.
170 at 6'2" is way more runnable than 170 at 5'10"

Artifical selection...What girl doesn't want fat little babies...have another twinke fatty
lol Dude this site is hilarious. People here are definitely living in a warped reality. Who said I want to run better? I run well enough, I lift weights too. Wow. 5'10 170 is tiny, guys at the gym would be laughing their asses of at this.
6'4" and same weight here.
But I have these things called muscles.
Unlike the scrawny little twerps posting on this thread.
Go study! You can go 5'10" and 250 with a BMI of 30 if you get a 250 on your boards. Plastics, ortho, rads and your set right? In 12 yrs you can take up running again and lose some weight.
Anyone serious about performing well athletically or looking good has far less than 10% body fat. 10% is just... Average
WTF??? Do you live in America? 30% is average in this country

The Garden State Parkway surely weighs more than 170 lbs
Ben Johnson was 5'10", 170 lbs? Apline skiier Lindsey Vonn is listed at 5'10", 165 lbs. Weird.

Im 6' 170
From a running standpoint, I'd like to drop a few pounds actually even though most think Im think if anything.
I find it hard to gain or lose weight though.
As stated, by American standards, you're probably the skinny one among your friends. But in reality, you're too heavy. I won't call you fat...you may have a lot of muscle, but weight is weight, and 170 is too heavy and will result in health problems long term.
I'm 5'11" and 147 pounds and should lose some fat as well. As a college runner, I weighed 130. That was probably slightly leaner than necessary, but close to what the human body should look like.
I'm a historian...if you want a good example of how much larger we've become, go read accounts from WWII veterans. The averages for a 20 year old American in the military in the 1940s was 5'8", 130 pounds, size 9 shoe, 29 inch waist, 36 inch shoulders.
Today the average US service member is above 5'11", above 190 pounds, 34 inch waist, 42 inch shoulders, size 11 shoes.
These are good stats. Our growth is attributed to the crap in our foods. We're overgrown and it will be our demise.

Meant to state that these are NOT good stats.

Are you a Phoenix?
I'm 5' 10 1/2" and 175. (50 years old.) I'm kinda hefty. Hoping I can get enough training in over the fall-winter-spring to run a half in late May. My ideal racing weight from many, many years ago--140 pounds--is totally unapproachable but I'm thinking maybe if I can get down below 160 it will be a big help in the spring. So yeah I wouldn't say 5 10 and 175 is fat but it sure ain't skinny around here.
