I always want to see the Ducks do well, but in what appears to be the Portland C team against UO's B team, the Pilots came to race.
I don't know what this says about the West Regionals or Nationals, but on race day, you've got to come to race and Portland did that better (slightly) than UO. Portland "won the day."

Oregon isn't even in school yet...not for a few more weeks. They don't even begin their fall training until this coming week, and they didn't run their top 7 or 8 guys. Those who did run, were more in it for a time trial. Ignorance is bliss for a few of the Portland fanboys.

Top 7 or 8 guys? You're serious? Have a fun season! Pilots held out top 10, and I'm guessing at least 1 or 2 of those Ducks are in their free agent/transfer-laden top 7. How can anyone defend the UO program? It's a complete farce and an insult to so-called amateurism.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but none of Oregon's top eight ran yesterday (Cheserek, Stinson, Leingang, Jenkins, Fleet, DeJarnette, Johnson, Pepiot. The only ones who ran and even have a chance to break into the top seven are Melancon or Winn. I hope that Portland enjoys their off-season championship, because reality will slap them in the face in a couple months, when the real racing begins.

Portland left out 10 men. Oregon left out 2/3 (lets remember that Dunbar can't run cross this year and Chezer-thingy is probably not eligible). Oregon still ran big names including a 13.39 guy and a few that got mentioned as potential big hitters in the Wood report. It was at the very least half an A team and half a B for Oregon. Portland ranhalf a B and their C team...and won easily.
Cheserek is a freshman, no top program should ever depend on a freshman. Remember the last time Oregon depended on a super star freshman...? (Verzbikas)
Stinson- Has never broken into the top 100 at NCAA's and he is now a SR. Choke Artist.
Dejarnette- The definition of choke artist. He didn't even make track regionals last year. His PRs are from either sophomore or freshman year.
Fleet- Is too big for cross country. Super super injury prone, probably will be injured most of this year. Plus, they don't train him for cross country. They focus on track only for him. He debuted at NCAA's last year.
Brett Johnson- more of an 800/1500 guy. wont be able to contribute in cross.
Pepiot- All his other PR's (3:45 1500m) beside his 8:33 are very weak. 8:33 is kinda meh anyway.
Jenkins- Just had a breakout year, isnt going to surpass what he did last year. Oregon will make him soft.
Leingang- Also a freshman, who was only 5th at Foot Locker. Talented but wont contribute much in his first year.
Oregon is a smoke and mirrors program with no real substance. They are far, far from the team that won nationals 5 years ago. They ride the legacy of Pre and Nike to recruit and sell kids a fake image. They don't train hard for cross country and make kids soft. They've been 20th last year and didn't even make nationals the year before that. Don't count on anything from this team anytime soon. #Overrated #Joke #Endthread

Hm, I remember a freshman Duck who finished around 5th his senior year at footlocker. His freshman year he was 5th at Nats.
I hear ducks are quite good. Haven't tasted them myself though.

The big problem for the Ducks is they have not recruited well the last 3 years.
When you look at the roster you see a lot of potential talent, but none have done well in XC at the national level.
Ducks seem to get more out of their local "walk on" than their out of state recruits.

On the thought that maybe you haven't been paying attention, the dynamics of Nationals is a lot different than those of a Conference championship meet. Besides, with three of their guys in the top 10 (and Leingang and Pepiot improving quickly), how did you come to the conclusion that Oregon got "crushed at conference"? If Jenkins is ready to go for Nationals, it will be a toss up between Oregon and Colorado.

They went 1-6-10, to Colorado's 3-4-5-7-9. And Fleet (who I will be honest ran a heck of a race for a 1500 guy) was nearly 10 seconds behind Colorado's 5th. Anytime your opponent gets their 5th in before your 3rd it doesn't matter if it's conference or NCAA's, you're getting "crushed".

annnnndddddd Pepiot is not really improving (more just staying consistently 1:10 behind Cheserek) and Leingang is doing the opposite of improving, I think most people refer to it as getting worse. Starting the season off right behind Cheserek. Then getting 34th in a race of 359 people, then 16th in a race of 77 people. Now I know what you are going to say, because this is Letsrun and the internet is predictable, "going from 34th to 16th isn't getting worse, that's getting better you butt munching dingle berry!!!" but to that i say....PHOOEY! there were nearly 5 times as many runners at PreNats, but he didn't do 5 times better at PAC12s.
annnnnnnnnnnddddddddddd even if Leingang and Pepiot were improving, which...they are not, because I just disproved that, but just for fun lets go to a fantasy world where you are right and I am wrong, and they are improving they would need to improve so much so that they made their current 3 runner become their 5 runner. That's a lot of improving, and even if they improved SOOOOOOO much that they froggy hopped Fleet, that would still put them behind Colorado's 5th.
aaaaaannnnnnnnnnnddddddddddddddddddd if McGorty had finished the race Stanford could have beaten Oregon, making the #4 team in the country #3 at PAC12s.
In summation, that is how he came to the conclusion that Oregon got "crushed at conference"
