My dog was on a leash and someone kicked him.

It was a fight for dominance in the hallway and the dog owner thought it was his hallway with his barking, threatening dogs. The man who kicked his dog showed him who the boss of the hallway is. Dog owner, heed his message. If you want to think you and your dogs can make people feel threatened in the hallway, then your dogs will get kickd again, and you might get the same. Wise up. Your dogs make people feel uncomfortable. Get them trained. Get yourself trained. Don't be a total doosh with dogs.

Gaw, I hate irresponsible dog owners. I don't know if you guys have noticed this in your area, but it seems to me that dog owners have gotten even lamer over the past 10 years--with the attitude that their dogs are above reproach.

In my town, there is a great, wooded trail that is about 6 feet wide. Heavily used, by walkers, hikers, runners, mtn. bikers. There is a huge sign at the trail entrance: "KEEP DOGS ON LEASH."

8 out of 10 dogs on the trail are OFF leash. I have no problem telling people off as I cruise by.

Last week, I approach a chubby 30-something guy with a baby strapped to his chest, his fat wife, and their friend, with THREE dogs off leash. A group of 5 HS girl XC runners try to pass them, and the dogs, confused, run right into the girls and cause them to stumble. I approach and say, loudly, "put your dogs on a leash. Read the signs. It's not just you out here."

The look of indignation on the guy's face, astonished that I would find fault with his dogs, almost caused me to lose it. Pigs!

That's because dog's are people, too.

There just dogs, and they need to be dominated. They respect it and understand it. Too much affection makes you weak and them dominant.

I hate dog owners because I don't feel safe running in my neighborhood. I've been attacked by pit bulls running out of open doors and other times. I'd be happier if dogs just existed in the wild and no one owned them. At least cats don't run out and attack you.

Hope your Rottie never bites someone (any dog can bite any time and out of nowhere) or maims someone and never have to regret having a "real dog." My next door neighbors "real dog" who was nice all its life one day took a chunk out of their 8-year old niece's face. Out of nowhere. Little dogs don't kill or maim people.

I've run by people in the park and had their dog try to bite me. Yes, I smack the dog. Yes, sometimes the dog is on a leash. If I'm running on the path and your dog tries to bite me, he gets smacked.

For one I do agree that people generally have the right to harm a dog if they are attacked and that people should train their dogs...BUT my dog was on a leash and he quite literally had 0% chance of reaching the old guy and in fact anyone and not to mention that they're small dogs. That is what caused me to tell him off.

Now please post stats for people killing people, livestock, scooter accidents etc...

Yeah that's what I had understood from the Animal Care Service Rep on the phone. Just because my dog is bothering him that he can't decide to kick him while I have him under control on a leash. And of course as long as I am not purposely having my dog bark at people.

But to be honest I generally do side with people's right to defend themselves if the dog is crazy, and a person is genuinely afraid that they're going to be bitten. BUT my dog was going nowhere for that matter as I had him already on a short leash and the old man clearly saw that as he and I talked for a brief 10 seconds before he decided to train my dog for me... and KICKED him out of nowhere. I honestly didn't see it coming because he and/or his family also have a dog for that matter. If my dog had attacked him in any way,or jumped on him, or had bitten him then it would be a completely different situation. I would have undoubtedly apologized and hoped not have gotten sued.

And as for why we have two small dogs is for the simple reason that they're easier to manage, and the place we live in is small.

I totally agree with the OP here in being really pissed at the guy.

The old guy approached him and his dogs before the dogs jumped at him.

The kicking was just a dick move.

It's just a dispute between neighbors, like any other.

It has to be dealt between them. They just simply won't like each other and move on with their lives.

You're not going to like this, but you were wrong here.

Some people are afraid of dogs, and they don't know your dogs from a hole in the ground. Not everyone appreciates having a dog jumping at them. Sorry that your dog got kicked in the face, but that's on you. If your dog is on a leash, then you need to keep it far enough away from other people so that they can't kick it in the face. If you're minding your own business and a guy comes up to you and then kicks your dog, then you've got a complaint. As you described it though, you were wrong.

I'm a dog lover and owner, and my dog sometimes gets overly excited about people, and so if she's on a leash, then I don't let her get close, and if she's not on a leash, she gets the stay command.
