For fatties like you, yes.
Fatter than I used to be for sure. The bigger problem for me is being on the far side of 50 though. My shoulders can't tolerate a lot of hard weight training anymore. Running 6:40 pace for a mile and a half can be done off of easy paced running which is less stressful.
