Manzano doesn't run to win. The way Lagat used to be able to in the 1500. Manzano runs to maybe place, maybe-maybe-maybe barely have a shot at winning by leaving it till late and kicking.

Kenyans, Moroccans, etc. are still kicking his, and our asses in the 1500 and everything else.

Don't know how Ventolin/Someone Had To Do It is so obtuse sometimes. Usually he has something to say.

Manzano is a constant over achiever.

In his best year he has only been the 11th fastest in the world. #18 in his second best year. #25 last year.

He's never even been the top American in any given year.

He's just not as good as the top guys in the world, yet he manages to compete with them time after time.

Given his ability and stats there is no reason to think that he would be winning a number of international races.

But he has won the 1500 in the NY Grand Prix plus that mile in London, one outdoor USATF title, that Olympic Silver and has a number of top 3 finishes in Europe.

If you are concerned about the US not winning many big races over the Africans don't get on Manzano's case. He's doing better than can be expected.

It's not like he has ever run 3:30 or 3:31.
