Mcnamara, Heath, Bayer, Leslie A standard!! 7 Americans 3.35.54 or faster!!

Is there a small chance that Leer may make it to worlds because of this run.

I understand that you needed to be in the top 4 to chase the A standard but with Centro potentially being out and if Elliott doesn't get the B, would USATF make an exception and prefer to send a full team?

This is a great measure of our quality depth right now, and you need that (see the Kenyans and Ethiopians) if you want to have success on the world stage, because out of a lot of mostly young guys now running 3:32-35, you will get a few healthy ones breaking through to 3:30 or better. Too bad that the top 1500s regularly now go out in 53/1:51. No reason at all for that when you have no one even approaching 3:28/3:48 these days. Had Paris gone out in 55-56, better times would have happened there.

no way mcnamara is in 3:34 flat shape, his best this season was a 3:58 mile. the track is actually 390 meters.

You're wrong- it's a good measure of how deep a nation's talent goes. The US is one of or even THE best 1500/mile nations in the world. This helps prove that.

Just like when they say that xxx Kenyans have the A standard for the marathon- it shows depth.

I would love to see Leer make the team if Centro is out. I couldn't find anything re: if there is an injury does that affect the rank order of finish at the US Champs. If they do not somehow elevate him to 4th then there appears to be no way to put him on the team, except as an alternate. 5th, no matter what happens, can be no better than an alternate.

The controlling date seems to be 7/20/13. If things are status quo on that date I ready the rule to say Leo and Lopez are on and, if Centro is hurt, but has the WC "B" (I don't know) then he can be put on the team and Leer as an alternate. Then Leer could take Centro's spot. If Centro does not have the "B" he can't be put on the team and Leer is an alternate and only gets on with a withdrawal or injury to Leo or Lopez.

I could be reading it all wrong, but that made the most sense.

I can't remember ever running a PR and thinking 'that means nothing'. All these guys running great times most definitely means something, even though it does not mean they're going to WC (this year).

Not particularly bright are you? The PR certainly means something but the A Standard doesn't. It has no bearing on them at all as it doesn't qualify them for anything.

Centro has the B, isn't hurt and the team is set with the exception of the alternate.

what are we looking to keep records like baseball now? it is a record: 7 Americans, in one race 3:35.5 or better but not on US Soil.

I notice that the IAAF website does not have these performances on their 2013 list but they have added the Paris times from the same day.
