Where are the US Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2014???

I don't agree with this. The Midwest is a great location for any national meet because it's within a day's driving distance of a huge percentage of the nation's population. Both Indianapolis and Des Moines sit on major interstates and make them easily reached. Both have low cost of motel/hotel rooms.

I find Eugene a real PITA to get to, forget about driving unless you live out west. If you're a poor college kid or recent grad who wants to be at these events, travel cost is a significant factor.

If you want to keep it midwest, is there anything in the Chicago area? Near a major population center, easy access via road, train, and air. Seems better than sticking it in the middle of nowhere.

I think the USATF CANNOT AFFORD to try another low market city if they want to promote the sport. Yes, Eugene is already off-market, but in the Athletics World, Eugene and Hayward Field got its name thanks to Pre so there is some history there. Having said that, I think they should try throwing it in locations like Boston, NYC, LA and a few others and actually promote their athletes.

In regards to the heat, you are ALWAYS going to get that in June, even in cities like Eugene, Boston and Seattle. I personally think the USA distance runners are not preparing themselves for the heat at all (blatant advice: do not run shirtless at all in temperatures cooler than what you will be racing in for the next 2-3 months)

It's close to two airports that have public transportation (BART) that arrives within 2 blocks of the stadium, it has decent weather, it has enough lanes, it has a huge amount of seating, it's in the middle of the Bay Area, close to food, hotels, and it's not at altitude.

It has maritime influence so it's not too hot or too cold.

I don't think there is a better venue than Cal.

Isn't the bright yellow coloration of that track a little annoying/blinding?

One thing many contributors to this thread have failed to realize is that you can't just plop the meet down wherever, even if it's the ideal locale. You have to have a local organization who wants to put it on, bid for it and pay for it.

I wouldn't want it on the East Coast (Penn) or West Coast (Cal, San Diego, etc), because of the cost and time for all us in the mid-west to travel. It should always be in the center of the country so we could drive to it and would save us money.

This question is still unanswered, so I thought I'd try to bump it up for further discussion. Someone mentioned Berea, Ohio early in this thread which I found quite unlikely, but about two hours east of Berea is the Spire Institute/GaREAT facility (whatever they are calling themselves these days). They have been hosting the Big Ten and NAIA Indoor Champtionships and have the name recognition of Micheal Johnson attached to them now. Have they made a bid at all for the championships, and would it make sense for them to hold it?

Shouldn't we have some clue where next years championships are going to be, or at least be hearing actual viable options by now? Or has all the drug busts killed the US Champs in a non-championship year?

It is likely to be Sacramento. This is a typical repeat USATF mistake (something Craig Masback learned). At tis point, for 2014, USATF will take whomever they can get, and it looks like Sacramento is one of the few places that is willing to bid. Word to the wise: if I were USATF, I'd be getting my money up front, cause they likely won't get anything later.

A lot of bad inside info here. It's Sacto or Des Moines with Iowa in the lead right now.
