For the last two years Manzano didn't do anything before USATF that looked like he deserved to make the team.

And Centro wasn't good leading up the last year's trials either.

But you see that these three guys have comprised the last two teams and that Lomong was the US champ the previous two seasons before that.

USATF is really the start of the season.

You're saying they need a good pre-season to deserve a major story line.

The last time that happened was 2004.

And Americans finishing 2 and 4 in the Olympics final is pretty great.

I do get the point that Lomong may be potentially better than Manzano and Centro.

And the 5000 may be the wrong event for him.

Basically the Kenyans bombed at the Olympics, if that's what you mean by the competitors not being great last year.

Your overall point that Lomong may have fared better in the 1500 is valid.

Even with the 1:46 I think wheating is vulnerable as he just doesn't put himself in postion to do anything.

I'm pulling for leer to make something happen. If he can't get past his current level at the 15 this year maybe step it up to the 5.

Centro is everything wheating could be, no way he's out of the top 3.

None of them are "locks" but Centrowitz is the most consistent.

Perhaps Manzano isn't an efficient/aerobic runner but someone who can run hard when he really wants to.

If that's so, his 5000 times are really irrelevant.
