I am frankly shocked and saddened by the lack of supportiveness in this thread. I think people should be proud of their accomplishments, regardless of how 'easy' you think it may be. It almost makes me not want to become a runner, because I don't want to associate with people like this.

Would you feel the same about a sticker that said "150K/yr", "1400 SAT Score", "145 IQ", "2012 Evanston Prom King", etc. I suspect not so maybe now you can see why others consider this obnoxious.

While this is probably true, within the past 5 years there has been a definite upswing of people more than proud of their 2 hour 40 minute half marathon finish. The longer it takes the tougher you are, right?

Why is it any different than having a Red Sox sticker, a college alumni, or a bowling league?
While the only sticker I have on my car is my parking permit, I simply cannot understand the amount of effort and hate posters have devoted to this subject. Who the heck cares what people put on their cars as long as it isn't offensive. Please find something else to get worked up about..... maybe childhood hunger or world peace?

Running a half marathon is not an accomplishment, it's a hobby. Nobody that I know of has a sticker that says "13.1 in 1:02:00". That would be obnoxious and an accomplishment.

"13.1" is more analogous to "I got a job", "I took the SAT test", "I took an IQ test", "I went to high school", as it lists the event and ignores the results.

I think it is more analogous to "Go Redsox", "I am a member of the Elks" " Boston Bowling League" bowl" "Patriots Superbowl Champions" "I went to Worcester State College" If someone has a baseball league sign, it just means they are a member, this is all the 13.1 means, that they run half marathons. It identify a hobby the person has.
