Yes, that was impressive after 8x1000, and she didn't tie up. I alsp liked her interview after Pre. A reporter seemed to suggest that maybe she should do the 800 at nationals because it might be softer this year, and she basically replied "Why would I avoid a race with the best?"

Seriously though, how does someone who has the ability to run that fast actually get that fat? I don't understand it. It's not like guys with natural builds like football linemen are going to run fast 5000s. Guys with naturally thin builds (and with actual running talent) are the ones who will run fast 5000s.
So, after stopping running for a few years even, how does someone who was that good get that fat?
Many of us stopped running after high school or college (college for me) and didn't get fat.

Not to be nit picky but you forgot Maggie Vessey 1:57.84. Still Brenda Martinez has been having a great year. I think that she definitely is NOT flying under the radar of true T&F fans.

I just watched the WOW video on Flotrack and holy hell that was a hard workout! Anyone else in her speed range and think they can't do this workout if their life depended on it? I train for halfs and marathons now with 1:09/2:25 bests and my 8x1000m workouts look like 3:05-3:10 in road racing flats, not 2:55's.
56.5 to finish a workout also seems way better than a low-1:58. I ran 1:58-1:59 in high school and my peak 10x400m workout would look like high 60s down to mid/low 60s on big rests (2-3 minutes). Definitely no sub 60s!!
I think it is cool seeing non Nike athletes do extremely well and become some of the best in the United States and in Brendas case the world. Smaller companies like new balance take a chance on a more under the radar and developmental athlete like brenda and now she is turning into a superstar. good for her, her sponsor and the sport of track and field. this needs to happen more often.
