What really happened when Eric Sowinski fell in the 800 in New York

Well, there you are. Again, it's easy to be an armchair critic if you've never been in that position. You went after the athlete because you didn't like his perspective of what he thought happened and then you claim to only disagree with the report by the illustrious site founders and now you don't want to sound critical and yet you apologize and call others cowards. Maybe next time you should just keep your critique to yourself or at least stand up for what you were so opinionated about and take the heat like a man when it comes your way. Who's the coward now?

Seems like the video replay is pretty clear. Both runners were running straight and then eased into each other's space. There was a bit of a "push" after the collision, but its clear he was just protecting himself as Sowinski continued to crash into him. So no foul could be called IMHO.

Its clear , no one is at fault , we did a frame by frame data drop.

What is also clear , Sowinski is still learning the in and outs of international racing. He won't fall again.

Sowinski or Solinski, both seem to go into theatrics when there is incidental contact.

Sowinski goes all "Simple Jack" in this case.

The most dramatic dive since Suzy Favor-Hamilton.

I love Sowinski's head bob... gotta love it. He was tying up bad and took a dive. Just gave in to the pain. Advice to Sowinkski: give into the pain AFTER you cross the finish line.

At the top invitational meet level asking for official intervention is folly and even more so if the guy they paid the big bucks to wins.

Even in that youtube piece presented in this thread the television announcer says that Kitum made contact with Sowinski.

Did the officials not want to do their job? Was there favoritism or politics playing a roll in the officials telling Sowinski to "get lost"?

Sowinski was not at fault but he payed the price.

I agree overall. At the point of contact Sowinski was behind Osagie and not gaining. No way was he going to get second.

Kitum was moving up fast, clearly passing Sowinski and MAY have passed Osagie.

Sowinski definitely caused the contact with Kitum by swinging into HIS SIDE laterally. Osagie drifted into Sowinski's LINE, but since Sowinski wasn't going to pass he really didn't have to move an inch to his right.

All that said, nobody is thinking anything except driving forward at that point, so I wouldn't hold it against anyone. His comments I would hold against him, though.

I have watched both the head-on and side-angle replay several times now. And, what Sowinsky said happened is exactly what did happen.

Nope--I'm wrong. No contact on the inside. The inside runner did drift out, but he was clear of Swinsky by a stride or two.

Another 10 viewings:

Coming off the turn, Sowinsky is on the outside of lane one, passing a fading runner. Then he moves out into the inside of lane two, hoping (in vain) to go around Osagie.

But, Osagie is clear by a stride or two, and though he drifts out bit, he does not appear to impede Sowinsky, whose kick had flattened out anyway and who was never going to overtake Osagie.

Sowinsky's move to lane two off the turn may have impeded Kitum, who was closing fastest of all, but appeared to flatten out for a couple of strides when Sowinsky move out.

In any event, as Kitum regathered his speed, he starts to go past Sowinsky to the outside, and those two brush. Looks like Kitum was holding his line, and Sowinsky was moving out a bit. I really didn't see any inward encroachment by Kitum.

Of course, Osagie dd drift out, which may have encouraged Sowinsky' s second drift out, which cased the contact that brought Sowinsky's fall and broke Kitum's momentum. So, maybe Kitum had an argument that Osagie should have been DQ'd for indirect interference????

If message board chatter has value to Nike Sowinski was a good add to their stable..

seriously who cares if he fell or not? the race didn't go as planned, plain and simple. No need to over analyze the cause of the fall, if the fall was at the fault of another runner, etc.

He fell! It's okay. He's not Paul Ryan, not the Boston Marathon Bombers, not a woman cutting marathon courses. He's a young pro. Give it time people. It's not like NY was the make or break of anyone's career. The meet sucked.
