I think it's a bit disagenuous to write Cam off as just a 10K runner. Obviously he is a very special athlete over a range of distances - 8:13 for two miles indoors, with apparently limited tapering, is a very good performance. Cutting his mileage back a bit, and including a bit more quality in his training would seem to be an obvious path towards running fast at distances as short as 1500 metres. Didn't Galen Rupp run 3:34 last year - how many Americans bettered that?

I love this poster. Apparently it is now a sin for Rupp to have training partners who are either superior or less accomplished. In one post Farah is responsible for race tactics resulting in Rupp's silver medal. In the next, Rupp is using poor Levins as a pacer in workouts. Apparently Rupp must train alone, coach himself, work at McDonalds and win the Olympics from the front in record time in order not to be bashed by RCB.

levins is an incredible talent. from a 23 flat 200m to 27.30 10k or whatever. those times imply a 3"50 mile but you still have to develop the middle, as in middle distances.
the deal is that if you want to win a 5 or even 10k championship you need to be able to run a 350 mile.
and close in 53.
to do that you want to back off the mileage for a while, do some flexibility and weight work and DUH speed training.

I would think Salazar is gonna take Cam even lower than the 130 miles a week. Sal is gonna have to make sure that boy is all repaired and healthy..then a long term goal may be set. Just my thoughts. Cam said in a Flotrack interview that he's down to 110 miles per week, but then on top of that is another 20 miles of underwater treadmill, Alter-G, etc. and now a lot more strength and flexibility stuff.
He says the total training time is not much different.

Which 5/10000 elite runner isn't able to run a 3:36 or faster. You need at least that kind of speed to be competitive on the world stage. What about Levins has shown that he wouldn't be able to do this. This is expected of him.

from what I have read, it appears that AC does not allow any 10000m times that were set before October whereas the IAAF window for the 10000 started January 2012.
If he is to double at worlds, it appears that he will need to hit both standards this season out of the shear ignorance of Athletics Canada.

My train if thought is that it was a great run by him but its something that's to be expected of him. If he expects to compete on the world stage then this is something he should be able to do. Again, you would be hard pressed to find a 5/10 elite who is not capable of this. In the US this time may be newsworthy but on the world stage it is assumed that you're capable of that. The goal of his career isn't to beat Simon Bairu, it's to beat the best in the world.
