in the early 90s when i was a navy corpsman at balboa, they held the 1.5 mile pft test on the balboa stadium track. a bunch of us had to escort the active duty nurses and corpsmen to the track because bums were harassing the runners the year before. we were very menacing in our navy dungarees and no runners were harassed that fine san diego morning.
i guess the neighborhood hasn't changed much - where anything not welded down is stolen and sold for scrap.

Inability to appreciate subtlety and nuance; fixation on tangible objects. "Time" that counts or some sort of "compensation." You know, a nil-nil draw can be far, far better than a 10-9 goal-fest. And a solid performance against topflight competition can be more meaningful than a time that counts or some sort of tangible reward.

My name is Pete Hess and I am the co-creator/meet director for the Inaugural Re:RUN SD. I am fully aware of the situation regarding the track and it concerns me in absolutely no way. I discussed with all agents and athletes before hand that the meet would most likely not count as qualifying times as we weren't sanctioned by USATF and unfortunately didn't have a rail on that track because it had been stolen TWICE from that facility for scrap metal. I was not prepared to pay 10k for another rail to be put in when the times most likely wouldn't count anyhow.
Based on this Flotrack interview with Martinez, it doesn't sound like she knew the time wouldn't count for the "A" standard. Did she miss the memo or was the race director not as forthcoming with that info as he claims?
