SEC Firings!

Coach O'Neal made the biggest mistake of his coaching career letting Gavin Kennedy go. Gavin was SOLEY responsible for two sub 9:00 3200/4:07 milers, sean tobin 3:46 1500 as 17 year old, mark shaw 14:20 as 17 year old, Seumas O'Reilley 9:00 3200, and a load of sub 9:30 3200 guys committing to Ole Miss. I would not be surprised if the entire lot of them decommitted. The cross country team had potential for nationals written all over it and would plummet to the bottom two teams of the SEC without this class.

I ran for Kennedy. You can guess where. He was an unreal talent and was going to turn the Ole Miss program from a bottom of the pack SEC team to a top talent in the NCAA. He inherited absolutely nothing this year and still kept his head up and grinded every day. When O'Neal finds himself without a job after multiple bottom 6 SEC finishes, he will look back to this day as a turning point. Gavin will be in a new job and blazing the recruiting trails in no time. Give him his talent and he will have no limits on what he can achieve as both a head distance coach and head track coach.

I would recommend him for any job, but his resume speaks for itself and will be back at it in no time.

Joe Walker is a good coach but a better man.

I seriously doubt a head coach would fire one of his first hires after one season because of their coaching/recruiting ability. If indeed firing was done I imagine there is a lot more to it than what we will ever know.

It's easy to recruit when you're at a distance-only program like Iona (with an abundance of scholarship money), or at a cheap-as-**** and academically easy school like Ole Miss.

If you think it's easy to recruit at Ole Miss just because it's cheap, you've obviously never been to Mississippi. There is absolutely NO distance talent in state. It's pretty hard to get guys to come in from quality states (Illinois, Texas, Cali, etc...) to come to a program in a sprint conference hours away from home just because the school is cheap.

cheap? i'm pretty sure its over $30,000 a year to go there, that's not cheap to me. not like we are talking about arkansas here where it's less than $15,000.

Definitely cheap, compared to most schools, including his former school of Illinois ($43,976 for out-of-state).

Of course there is more to it; Brian O'neal is a pompous douche bag, who believes himself to be God Almighty's greatest gift to Earth.

This guy struts around every where he goes like he self handedly won 3 National Championships, 5 olympic medals, and defeated Hitler's Nazi Wehrmacht, all in one day.

He claims to have coached Will Claye, Christian Taylor, Genevieve Lacaze, and many other Gators that attended this past Olympics. Yes, Brian you were on the coaching staff while the athletes performed for the Gators, but you cannot honestly believe you had anything to do with their success. I wonder what Dick Booth would have to say about this.

I suppose he also believes he is the reason Isiah Young made the Olympic team.

Yeah but you aren't taking into account the fact it's school in Mississippi. You'd have to pay me 50k just to live there.

I said SC is unlikely to get anyone better. And why the hate on Frye? You know his body of work, right? Very few have done better, more consistently, for as long. And the ones who have are unlikely to come to Columbia, SC.

It was probably because he thought he should be head coach. Same feeling Erin wore out welcome at Arizona prematurely.

I've met Gavin before. He's classier than to take to some message boards to voice his anger. I'll go ahead and believe this is posted by a runner who liked his coaching, just as it says

I heard it was three coaches at Ole Miss who were fired. Who were the other two?

Gavin Kennedy (Mens Distance), Adam Judge (Throws), and a female coach by the name of Betis. I am not sure what event(s) she coached.

Brian's days are numbered indeed. He was GIVEN the job for traits that he nor anyone else had control over. Ole Miss needed a man of his status in a coaching position.

Sadly, the administration screwed this one up, as they will soon realize.

Gregory Stringer was the more qualified and more respectable candidate to lead the program.

Can incoming signees de-commit if there is a coaching change in spite of presumably signing an NLI? What a mess! Do schools have athletic aid available this late in recruiting season?
