Stopwatch App For iPhone That Includes Splits

One thing I noticed when we were developing a stopwatch was that most of the stopwatch times in the apple app store didn't even add the laps correctly. The timer that comes standard with the phone is one example of this. Don't assume you are getting a mathematically correct app, even if you end up paying for it!

We are going to push an updated version of our app that enables the side button control soon, and eventually an iPad version that will track multiple subjects (when we get around to it).

Our free app records laps and keeps an accurate running total. Our paid version (.99) emails and saves sessions (soon will have skins too).

Our app is called Stopwatch ANA, which stands for Apps No Ads, because I hate ads in apps.

In my opinion the most important feature of a stopwatch app is the ability to start/stop/lap using hardware buttons instead of the touchscreen. There is nothing more annoying than trying to time someone using a smartphone and then realizing your thumb or finger wasn't over the button when you tried to start/stop the timer, so then you have to look at your phone's screen while watching other runners or while trying to run yourself, stupid. It might not be a big deal in cross country where a few extra seconds fumbling with your phone isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things but in track trying to get relay splits and such you just can't watch the runners and hit the button on the touchscreen at the same time IMO.

On the Android I use "Ultrachron Lite" it's free and lets you use the volume up/down buttons to stop/start and lap, then you don't even have to look at the phone to time something. I'm sure there are plenty of other apps, though I guess the iPhone doesn't have enough buttons to do this.

Personally give me a good watch any day, I've used my phone to time kids for whole track meets last spring and at the end of the day your left with a dead phone and then you don't have any way to make calls. I only use my phone as a timer in a pinch on days when I forget my watch.

Agreed. That was one of the bases of my design when I started developing this app. Moreover, during the last lap you can either click the lap or start/stop volume button and the app will stop the timer. It is really annoying to hit the lap button when the race finishes and later on see the timer still running....

This is a slightly different use case, as it doesn't apply to a coach taking multiple splits.

But FitFriend takes splits for a single athlete, with pace and distance of each displaying as well. It then syncs to Runkeeper or Strava like a normal training run.
