He will need to be at sub-13 quality to make the 5000, although the race will not likely be run that fast. I would guess that the fastest guys will not want to let it linger though, unless some of the competition needs the A mark (but since one B can go there is less of a constraint than for the OG).
i recall when he ran his sub27, everyone stated how lean he looked.
could the diet change that allowed him to run sub27 be the cause of the injury?

Going from 13:23 to sub 13 within a few months... I can't see that happening.
I have a feeling that if Solinsky keeps this up then during the trials I don't think he'll let it be sit and kick (I'm thinking close to a four flat last mile)

No one knows. He must be hungry being hurt and unable to compete for so long. Makes me think he has good insentive beyond his prior abilities. Now he is getting good material feedback. Just hope he keeps his head and chips away in a controled way. Good energy could work for or against him if he becomes carried away with emotion. Seems like a good guy, at least from the couple of times we met, so I hope he has his moment, again. I would be pleased too, with this run, if I were in his spikes.
If he gets back to 13 it would be incredible. I give him a 40 percent chance.

Going from an 8:05 3k 2 months ago to 13:23 is rapid improvement.
Given his talent, PRs and the fact he is improving at an incredible rate, Solinsky could be low 13:00s by year end. Is anyone else as impressed with this as I am? I thought there was no way he would be this fast right now. I'm pretty psyched to see what he does the rest of this year and next year. Maybe he can get back down under 13:00 and 27:00 again... something that likely seemed impossible even to him 2 months ago.

Hats off to Solinsky. The guy has heart (we knew this.) But given what he's had to deal with, I thought 13:39 would be what we could look for.
So I say that 13:23 is amazing.
Solinsky faster now than pre ever was or could have been.

Totally disagree. Chris only raced 2 months ago with a 3000m race in 8:05, an indication of about 14 flat shape. Granted he said he may have been able to go a few seconds faster, but it was his first race back.
Payton, only 2 months later, increases the distance by 2k and yields 13:23 shape. Clearly, Solinsky hadn't expected such a result.
"Gradually" would be the Craig Mottram case study. Hamstring injury, surgery, long recovery spanning well over a year and a half. Same as Solinksy. But Mottram's return to racing hung in the 13:40s for a while and it took him a whole season/year to get to the 13:18 that eventually got him to London. And he was a whole lot of talent.
We have the start of Solinksy's arc of improvement here. Within two months Chris will likely be running 13 flat.
Not necessarily. I imagine he has committed to running a certain relatively slow pace and building up his conditioning. Those times could just reflect that he took the 3K indoors a little easy. With the 5000M he ran the same pace but longer. Not that I disagree with you. When you are in your prime then I think returning to a previous level one has already firmly established is like a rubber band snapping back into place. He has run so many low 13s and sub 13 races in his life that sheer habit is probably a big reason he is running 13:23. He's at a stage returning from injury that it can be both gradual and rapid all at the same time. But going from 13:23 to 13:05, let alone 12:55 is a whole other matter. I don't think he is rapidly going to get there. And that is putting aside the matter of rebuilding his finishing speed.
