There was 14,000 people in the race. These events need to set limits or at least the cops needs to. In Frederick MD last year at one of these events, the traffic was so bad - the major interstate was almost closed because everyone was trying to get off of one exit.

I can't speak for this one, but the one that I did In Pa they had people yelling at you if you didn't jump right away. I stopped to make sure I wasn't jumping right on top of the guy in front of me and they were yelling "jump!". When I said I was waiting for the guy to move, they said don't worry you won't hit him.
Plus we had already jumped into a pool of ice water, so if they did the same, that water shouldn't have been to shocking

Isn't that the point of a 'tough' mudder? Get dirty falling in mud and risk electrocution and drowning while 'running' 10 minute miles? Fun!

Doesn't every single person get electrocuted? Isn't that one of the obstacles?
There are electric shocks, but no electrocution. Nobody has ever been electrocuted. The difference is huge.

True. And i Have seen all the cords hanging down sometimes get tangled together in a big group and wondered: what if someone hit that group, and each was live, what kind of shock would that be? (because one is nothing, but 10?)
And as others have stated: the jump of the platform into the water was the most dangerous obstacle because staff were not particularly being careful about making sure no one was below you when you jumped. It was pretty high up. If a big guy landed on your head while you were still under water (and if you went under deep, the next jumper might not think anyone was still underneath them), you'd get clobbered, possibly knocked out, and then yes, in the chaos, might not be noticed under the water (and some people wear heavy gear that might make them sink). I'd say that that was the most likely scenario. I got to the surface and swam out of there has fast as I could so this would not happen.
Ironically, just a week ago, I read an article where the CEO said, and it was the title of the article: "Amazingly, we've had no one die yet."
Some old lady at my office did one of those monster runs last Saturday. She fell off one of the obstacles and broke her shoulder and arm. She is one of those short, fat trolls who has no understanding of how horribly overweight and out of shape she is. I laughed when I heard what happened because she's stupid. The only smart thing I ever heard her say was "You're really thin."
I am doing the Tough Mudder this weekend in Ohio and I am undeterred.
I feel bad for the athlete's family. Competing in endurance sports is not without risk.

Didn't realize they intentionally shocked people with electricity in these events. Sounds like a great event.
In the comments on that Wash Post article, the commenter says at the same event there were 2 heart attacks and 1 electrocution. I doubt there were more than 1 deaths or else the news media would be all over it. So by electrocution, he probably meant seriously injured by the electric shocks, not death. But still.
Roll of the dice. I mean look at the numbers. There must be load of people participating in events. Generally safe. We got like a few deaths here and there. That is a testament to the safety really, just by raw numbers. We got a few yahoos here and there.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not. Preventable deaths should call into question if these events are "generally safe."
Everyone that participated in the event needs to be held accountable for failing to uphold the tough mudder pledge!
