Agree with you that it is a "no biggie", but putting into better context, he was not insulting high schoolers, he was insulting the elite field that he just ran with for running like high schoolers.

This is not classy at all and can't "love this guy".

Like I said, classy or not, he is only saying what people already say without a camera in their face. He's not one of those politically correct bore-fests he is honest and candid and I appreciate that.

And seriously, WHY would you come out to Mt. Sac to jog 67-69s? Why? Everyone there is trying to get a time.

... He has every right to say that. No one took the pace, so he manned up and ran a 15 second PR from the front. Big respect.

it was quite obvious throughout the race that he would run wide and look back to get other people to help out with the pacing. i thought people on letsrun had thicker skin?

I agree. It'll be fun to watch him go to Europe and almost get lapped. 13:20 was good for about 14th place at last years meet in Zurich. Not to mention, there's a handful of guys out there that can nearly throw up 2 of those back to back.

I really want to like him, too. Love the scrappy underdog. But he does need a better filter. It is not classy to call that field gutless. They were not on his level. MAYBE you call out one of the dozen Americans capable of running 13:20, but they weren't in this race, unfortunately.

Anyone see a resemblance to Steve Buschemi in his interview?

You realize that some people don't get dragged along on a train, right? They get into that even paced 13:05 to 13:15 race and run 13:25. His effort today is worth 13:21.

What's your point? If I was in a race with some idiot who wanted to lead (with pretty good splitting), why would I stop him? I'm very to run the best time I can, I don't really care how everyone else does.

Yeah, Lear is like that. He b!tched and complained in interviews when Lagat walked all over him at Oly trials, and he b!tches and complains when he's the fastest in the field.

Exactly. When Leer and the rest of the field at trials were too scared to push the pace with Lagat lurking in the pack, he complained and made excuses for running like a coward. Now he expects slower athletes to lead out his personal time trial and blow up?

Agreed it will be fun to hear his excuses when he gets stomped on in the circuit.

After all of these years of placing well at USATF 1500 with a blazing kick he never got the 1500m A standard.

Now, he seems more capable of getting the 5000m A standard (13:15.00)

I assume that is the goal this year.

maybe he's pissed that he missed out on an A qualifier (assuming he did).
