As a teammate, I can tell you she eats a ton (and very healthily), and her thinning out is a result of higher levels of training. You try moving up from 30ish mpw in high school (and injured freshman fall) to running mileage in the 70s with lots of core, push-ups, and drills without getting a leaner body.
She is the real deal, and has consistently improved for two years since she burst onto the scene in outdoor as a freshman. Mega talented and one of the toughest runners I've ever met.
Haha that picture is from her freshman year cross country, when she was injured and running almost zero mileage. Now running in the 70s and training at a high level, she's leaned out and looks like an elite level.
Having seen Shalane and Abbey both in person, I can tell you that are of similar builds and leanness.
Yeah, I really do think Abbey is currently leaner than Shalane

Yeah, I know what you mean when you say it's "fine" -- you mean it's pretty common for elite runners.
But to me, it's not so fine, since I'm not a fan of those matchstick arms. They just look so breakable, like you could snap 'em in half like a twig!
She ran under the A standard or very near to it in the trials almost qualifying for the olympics she obviously didnt run it to her full potential if the last 7 or 8 laps were increasingly quicker

Pictures can be deceiving. Abby is WAY WAY more thinner than Jordan. It's not even close. You have to see them both in person.

Honestly, I think right now she is FINE, but she can`t afford to lose any more weight.
I do think Abbey looks leaner than Jordan in that 5k pic.
In Jordan`s favor, it seems she`s very healthy in that she has had a very constant weight and no injuries. I don`t think she has lost or gained any weight since starting at Oregon (though certainly gained muscle).

3rd place finisher Cally Macumber SR Kentucky is the tiny one, both Jordan and Abbey look big in her present.
Shalane isn't as lean as she was training under Cook which is when that pic was taken. She was an animal and Whippet thin.
Abbey isn't as thin as the 3rd Oregon girl in the race and a few others in there. Just because she won she is too thin?
It has nothing to do with winning or losing. It's all about being too thin - period.
So why are individuals speculating when she looked a lot better than many others in the field.
She only looks tan because those around her are from northern Vermont, upstate NY, and Connecticut. Western Oregon is much warmer than those locations and occasionally has clear sunny days where you can be out with a fur coat. Also, it might just be flushness in the face and upper torso you are seeing, not tan (note no tan lines).
