They are saying 58.6 last 400 for Cain, which to me is bigger than the win. To realize she has that type of closing speed is pretty amazing.
To see her win a tactical race like this and show that much natural tactical savviness also is big.
I do think this spring they should get her in races and just maker her run like 4 laps with a pack for practice like a workout. Just to practice being surrounded.

Is the 58.6 really that big of a deal for her? We know she has the speed and she went out in about 2:55 for the first 800 and think the 1000 was only in about 3:35 which is a jog for her.She has run 2:03 beforeThe fact that she was able to run a tactical race without feeling the need to go to me is a lot more impressive.

Can't blame Cain - never been there before and at altitude. Plus Salazar pretty much telegraphed the race strategy ahead of time. But what are the rest thinking, knowing that she's got blazing speed at the end? Is it "maybe if we run real slow we can jump her in the last meter or so"? It's almost as if they had already conceded her the race and were running only for the podium. Pretty striking how fast Mary has established psychological dominance over this set of runners.
the 58.6 is definitely the big thing here. she just smoked 'em in the last quarter.
and yes, she needs more practice running in a pack and trying to get outside before the bell lap. i think salazar said the same thing a few days ago
