I hope it's not too late. I broke my college PR of 3:57 last year with a time of 3:55 (at age 28) after some time away. I'd like to give a couple more years of consistent training and see what happens.
Good Morning Skate,
The 1 and 2k races don't come along too often. I believe they are 2:25 and 5:25 by Eamonn?? I ran an Indoor 1000 in Boston in 2:27, but went out too slow for a real fast time there. Those are some good distances for me. My range is 800 (barely) to 3k, so anything in the middle is good. Anything outside is always a question???!
Worlds or any other meet as a Master runner is Always an out-of-pocket experience, so I rarely get away from the The Great Pacific Northwest area. I am budgeting next year for the meet in Hawaii (Nationals) though.
Plan to just run between 80-100 miles now for about 3 months on the trails and Hills! Just going to build up the best Base for next year.
Cheers
tony
John Walker ran his fastest mile in his mid thirties
Wow that is a lot of mileage. Indeed, Coghlan 2:26.71 and I think someone once told me 5:17 for the 2000, 8:05 for the 3000.
I plan to travel to Spain next year, My off season mileage will only reach 50 but that should take me down to 1:55.
Spain is not as expensive as the rest of Europe, It will cost me just as much to fly to Hawaii, so I would rather go to the World's. There are about 4-5 other guys in my age group running 1:55. Besides I have won a National title in Eugene, a World's would be nice.
No doubt you have seen the results of the Euro Vets, They have a few guys over there capaple of 3:53-54 in the 1500 and 1:53 in the 800, it may prove better competition for you. of course when you hit 45 they will have another World's and then you have a bunch of new records to chase.
Any more track races this season? I have a few left ending with Clubwest masters meet in Santa Barbara on October 2nd.
