Kevin Hadsell Denies The Deadspin Allegations

There's another deadspin story coming out where MANY former UT runners come out and tell their story. This is just not about Emma Kertesz. The douchbag is down and is going to stay down, maybe he can be a janitor somewhere. No amount of posting on this forum will save you Kevin.

So the goal is to ruin him as a person? Interesting. Malice. Another criteria for libel/defamation suit. You're no onger reporting the news.

Could someone clarify the facts regarding the reasons for his resignation?

My impression from reading the articles was that he resigned because he would have been fired for having sex with college athletes that he was coaching at the time. The inappropriate texting and on-job drinking were just additional salacious details that while undesirable were not the main issue.

Listening to Kevin and some of the posters on here, it appears the claim is that the sex with athletes was either before it was illegal or there was no proof. Kevin resigned to spare Toledo embarassment and hassle because they would have fired him anyway to avoid a potential sexual harassment lawsuit (that Kevin and/or Toledo had a decent chance to win) and that it is just too much trouble to keep a screwball as coach of a non-revenue sport.

Which of those is closer to the truth?

I hope they have proof.I hear Hadsell has hired a hi-power attorney and is going after all those involved in slander suit.

That photo was taken on a team trip to a XC meet in the fall of 2008 before any of you young guns were even on the team. He bought it in a gas station in Pennsylvania and proceeded to wear it the rest of the trip.

You can't go after folks posting that they think you are a dirtbag for slander or libel. But if he wants to donate lots of money to a hi power lawyer, that is a great way to get more broke.

What is more interesting to me is the tone-deaf attitude of people who are continuing to try to hurt the credibility of Emma Kurtesz. They are not helping Kevin Hasdell.

"Merely" expressing a desire to knock boots with someone you're coaching is plenty of a reason to be fired. Everything else is just details.

Kevin told me that the Toledo Blade sat down with him and went though the Deadspin article point by point for an article soon to be published. Today, the Blade ran a story quoting two current members of the team who deny much of the Deadspin material.

Meanwhile, Doug Brown (Deadspin guy) is all over Twitter complaining that the university hand-picked the two who were interviewed and ordered them what to say. I guess when you write for a "media outlet" like Deadspin, everything is wheels within wheels.

As for those who continue to insist that Kevin himself is behind some of these posts, he was genuinely shocked when I told him that a track runner at UVM (our alma mater) had died over the weekend. He says he hasn't been here and doesn't care to, for what precious little that's worth.

It does sound like the Deadspin article stretched the facts. I didn't read anything that was truly harassment. Bad yes, but she doesn't have a legit case.

If they have the goods, then why do they need to push it further? This hurts the cred of Deadspin and other real victims.

He got results. I'd hire to coach men.

This whole thing make Toledo look like the ultimate backwater. A 6 part news series on this? Really?

I'm a letsrunner, but the average person watching the news finds this interesting?

I've read the article. Could you point to the places where they deny "much of the Deadspin material"? I see a denial of the drunk driving incident and a denial that he created a culture of eating disorders. The specifics of the alcohol issue seem irrelevant since Hadsell himself admitted to drinking at practice on multiple occasions and admitted to going to a bar with his team, which included an underage runner. The eating disorder culture issue is tough to prove either way with just one girl's argument on each side. Is anything else that Deadspin alleges denied in this article? If so, where?

The interviewer certainly made me appreciate the job Oprah did with Lance.

Maybe they'll release some more stuff, but if not, how does he not ask about sexual stuff with current athletes.

Look, did she drive the vehicle with students in it after having 'several' drinks? This is likely a fairly serious offense. Was he drinking with the team and with some members that were underage? He did not know; well, he clearly COULD have known because he had the data on such things, so not knowing was a choice [and a failure to monitor]. Did he ask them all if they were legal?

Throwing stuff at Emma is essentially saying: "[I did a bad thing]... but ignore that man behind the curtain."

He broke multiple rules that deserved FIRING from his position of authority.

He said himself that he would have continued in his behaviors if he had not been turned in. In fact, he had been turned in once and lied to get out of that investigation and then continued his same set of impermissible acts.

Every post attacking Emma is one that says: "I still don't get it, isn't this just a he said/she said cat fight?"

New video from interview explained that Hadsell's accusation of a relationship was not true. Offered up that he had only ever spoken with that former athlete on the phone 1-2 times total in her entire career. That former athlete, even after seeing texting conversation with emma and hadsell, never varied from that assertation as well. This is in direct conflict with deadspin article where they claim that's why he resigned.

2-3 year long relationship and basically never spoke on phone? Current teammates assertain they never heard that rumor or would guess that? Nobody can say they ever saw the two outside of cc/track until months after she graduated? Clearly in his texts he's also fearful to hook up with that Caitlin as well?

This sounds like it isn't helping Kertesz and her story.
