She seemed very nice, but.... and I am honestly not trying to be mean here, but she seemed to be almost as big a nerd/dork as Rupp is. This means she should fit in well in the Salazar camp and bodes well for her future.

Sarah Baxter chose to stay with her high school and be a team player while Mary Cain/and or her father seem to think she is too good for the high school system. How about letting the girl progress slowly and have fun with her teammates. She is 15 years old and her father is already thinking about winning an Olympic medal. The high school sports experience only comes once and it has been taken away from her before she even got to enjoy it. Call me old fashioned but high school sports should not only be about winning

So are you implying that if Sarah Baxter was in the race in which Mary ran 4:11 that Sarah would have beaten Mary? The two young ladies haven't faced each other many times and I don't think they ever raced at Mary's best distance 800m/1500m! So whats your point?

Baxter runs about 8 track races a year! Never been to nationals indoors or out! Runs a few races in cali then states and thats it!

While I think it is altogether silly to pit the runners against each other, as they are both great in their own right, it should be noted that Cain is willing to race Baxter in Baxter's specialty, while Baxter thus far has not raced Cain in hers.

Exactly! I would love to see the two race each other at both 1500m or Mile and 3200m this year.

Please shut up! Mary Cain was the fastest 16yr in the world last year at 1500m and only two other youths were fasters and both were 17 and neither were Kenyan!

After many hours of studying everything on Mary and Sarah I don't think either girls have leveled off as stated by a previous posters. In fact I think the following personal best are attainable:

1500m.....4:09.75 HSR

Mile......4:30.90 HSR

3000m.....9:19.95

Sarah Baxter

Mile......4:39.25

3000m.....9:03.20

2Mile.....9:49.95

5000m....15:49.75

Senior year she could lower 5000m to sub 15:40

Sarah may have a 2-0 advantage but look for that to change should Miss S. Baxter start racing Mary at her specialities.

I don't know anyone who is particularly surprised by the result given Baxter's CC prowess and the course conditions.

We would expect things to be a bit different had Cain entered FL but the Indiana So. Rohrer would likely have the advantage there too. I don't know if Cain is ready to run a sub-17 5000 yet?

for the record, MC is totally awesome - she's the most charismatic high schooler since hassay -she will be great for the sport.

OK- I see your point, too. I agree that she did not say it to slight Sarah. Mary is a very hunble girl- I've met her at meets in NY. She's a very "normal" kid (considering she has such amazing talent).

I like Sarah to be a better college athlete , she looks to have more upside , somewhat underdeveloped ( speed ) , shows great strength , will improve with more defined speed work .

College is a different game for both of these young ladies , lets see how they flourish. Great talent pool coming through with this class.
