HS 4x 800m relay team- is this realistic?

I actually remember the St Joe's team of 1972. I lived right down the street from their school. their team was small, but very talented. I recall the Trammell bros, Alex and eric, as the top studs. I'm sure they were both on that team. Talented runners in Buffalo were transferring there to be on that team.

They also held the VCP 5-man average record for over 3 decades until FM broke it in 2004 (on a clearly faster resurfaced VCP course).

My team and I ran 8:02 in the spring with one kid doubling off of the 2 mile. We hope to go sub-8 this winter.

the 8:00 800 relay thing is a very minor part of the book - this is not a novel about running.

It's about Columbine and a few other things.

My high school had two 4x800s race in an invite during high school, I was on the faster one and we ran 7:46, the other ran 7:58. We had ten guys that could run 2:00 or faster

That was an amazing 4 X 880 in Illinois High School State meet 1976. Spivey and White. Didn't Spivey run something like a 1:48.5 split?

Cinder track,5/8th inch spikes, 1000 kids in the school, possible w good coaching, especially if they go to meet with a fast dirt track or all weather. In that era few kids raced on all weather until state.

Sub 8 means averaging under 2:00

The teams I've seen that have sub 8 tend to have a guy at 2:02, 2 guys about 2:00, and a guy sub 1:55. My HS' record is 7:42 from 10+ years ago and I believe it was 1:59 / 55 / 55 / 52 and decimals
