I am highly suspicious of this. Not that I doubt people were doped but how do they ensure the integrity of the samples? And retesting some but not all? How is that fair.

Its like Tygarts pursuit of Armstrong...hollow unless he now goes after the next guy with equal zeal.

Most importantly, how will this affect my scoring in the LetsRun prediction contest?

If they re-test the 100, then Asafa Powell or Kim Collins would get the Gold.

I am pretty sure Gatlin, Obikwelu, Maurice Green and Shawn Crawford would have dirty samples (places 1-4).

Not as sure about 5th place Powell at the time or Collins.

Who is doing the testing ? What is the criteria ? What are the results of each test ? Who was tested for each test ? Who is deciding what is positive, negative, and undecided ? What was the chain of custody for each sample ?

I think the question of what samples they re-tested and why is one that has to be answered and I'll try to get to the bottom of.

In my mind, why wouldn't all of the samples be re-tested? If they weren't all e-tested, what criteria was used to pick the events to re-test?

There had better be a logical explanation or people are going to think the IOC was afraid of certain results in some very high profile events where there are lots of rumors (men's 100, men's 1,500 etc) and just skipped those events as a result.

These are questions we will try to get to the bottom of. Apparently, the samples were only re-tested because a German tv station raised a ruckus saying it was a shame no samples would be re-tested before the 8 year statue of limitations ended.

What I recall of that great competition was the venue, in the ancient ruins away from the Olymnpic Stadium. If I recall correctly, they condu cted the men's and women's shot competition and let spectators in free of charge,a great decision by the IOC. And I'll thank the brojos once again for covering field and other T and F events not distance running.

I am not a scientist and can not speak to the reliability of tests eight years after samples were taken. If the samples can be reliably protected, I enthusiastically support taking the samples and testingt them in future years. It's a clear deterrent to PED use. An athlete, when faced with the decision of using or not using, might come to a different conclusion if he knew he might be disgraced years later.

Adam Nelson was a superb competitor over many years and thrilled us with many performances. If this plays out the way it looks, it's a shame he did not stand on the highest spot on the podium that day in 2004 and hear his national anthem played.

Interesting that they have chain of custody concerns. I've been a participant in doping testing procedures with the USADA. It really concerns me that they would let samples ever fall into a questionable status...it shouldn't be that hard.

Adam Nelson, Reese Hoffa, Christain Cantwell, etc. are also suspected of using PEDs. That's why we have to see his test results as well as the results of everyone else and chart them for the past 20 years. Having NBC TV create another ruse is not the best for our sport.

Did they retest his sample as well?
