These are the same girly men who claim that Snell looked like a Sumo winning Olympic 8/15.
There so insecure ,that they beleve you must have a sterotypical ectomorphic build to be deserving of being an elite runner.
I quote a famous poster/runner from these boards, to paraphrase,"This sport is full of tightly wound weenies."
At least she was running in the finals, not sitting on her ass ripping on people on the message borad!!

Yes and also has an athletic waist line. It's called muscles. She's all athletic and an elite runner.
These type of threads should not be on.
Elissa has always had a "low center of gtavity" compared to other runners at her level. Despite not having the ideal physique for a miler she seems to do OK - that just might say something about her as a competitor. I bet she was told 100 times as a kid or in college that she was wasting her time, yet there she was leading the Oly Trials 1500m final.
I think she went to Cal not Stanford.
I saw the pics from the link a few posts above. Yes, the girl does have big thighs and, for that matter, a pretty big and thick waist too. I guess it goes to show that runners can come in all different shapes and sizes.

You said, "beat banks."
No seriously, though, girls just aren't nearly as competetive, and therefore as physically fit, as men. Everyone likes to respond, "oh what about Paula... what about Marla..." but you need look no further than the women you live and work with and see every day. Are they as competetive and active as the men you see every day? Only in the minds of the Gloria Steinems out there. The big-legged woman (who ain't got no soul) is futher verification that with a moderate amount of training, the average girl can make the olympics trials.
Mad?
I love when people talk out of their ass, but hate the smell.
Show me where feminists say that a woman's physique is equivalent to a man's. If there are people who say that as I am sure there are, is this a mainstream view among feminists. I am a feminist, and want to know why others have hid this from me.
Also, you misuse the word "fit." Being less competitive does not equal being fit. For example, Ana Guevara is not competitive with Jeremy Wariner, but she is by no means less "fit" or active than Mr. Wariner.
Further, your usage of the word "fit" and "active" means that women simply need to increase their fitness and they will be competitive with men--something you obviously disagree with.
She may have bigger thighs than your typical 1500m runner, but you have the logic skills of a dirty shoe.
Tell the men that at my gym who just sit around and drink their gallon of water as I bust my ass on the treadmill.
You look at one girl with larger muscular legs, and make an assumption about an entire gender. I know plenty of intelligent, athletic and competitive women. I know an equal number of overweight,couch-sitting men.
Look at her, she is shorter than most of the women, and has a stong build. Of course she looks big compared to most of the long and lean runners.

Obviously, she was great enough to be there! It really burns me how you XY chromosomes feel free to rip the XX's body plan and performances. How, exactly, may I ask, your own quads hold up right now to the intense media scrutiny of an Olympic trials 1500 m final?? Would you even be there?? Elite distance runners have a wide variety of inherited body types (consider Rob Decastella, Tosiko Seko (sp both), even Joanie Benoit was not a sprite in her heyday). I myself ran a 2:33 marathon as a "larger" elite female, and that was over 20 years ago! If they're there, they have got the talent, buddy!
don't get your panties in a wad, sheesh it wasn't even really a sexist comment. He was just commenting on her build. Go look at the tread of A Webb if you think its just because she's a women.
It is because she is a woman -- Webb's thread is about whether or not he is on drugs. Both of them are pretty pointless, anyway.
Discuss?
It says Olympic trials on her number...unless you were there don't even think about talking smack because she made it and your skinny ass didn't.
End of discussion.
no, the Webb thread is titled "Look at this" and points to the muscular definition in his arms. People later speculate about drugs, but the original intent was to point out something you don't see everyday.

We know which one you are, since you have no clue what a sexist comment would be.
