He's delusional and needs to feel special. Hesch bizarrely distinguishes his drug use as different from those other 'bad' drug cheats.
Devastating as it may be to "come clean" now for you and yours, it must now cross your mind that many of those that put their trust in you are now speculating that this probably didn't begin a couple years ago, but has been going on for a long time. A long time indeed.
For those of us that have known you from the beginning, there were things that never quite added up. Some saw it and distanced themselves from you immediately. Others were more liberal with their trust.
Either way, best you were popped now as some half-assed rougue, than when you were associated with honest and hard-working coaches and athletes in SLO Town (and beyond).
Christian, What pisses me off, as a fellow post-collegiate runner trying to make a few bucks on the side, is the fact that by "admitting" and "apologizing", were suppose to somehow feel sorry, or empathize with your situation.
Likewise, as most dopers love to iterate how they felt compelled to come clean; NO, you just got caught ya cheating liar. Don't think for one second this guy was ashamed of what he did while doing it, he's ashamed in hindsight because he got caught. My tolerance for dopers is very limited, to the extent where only if a coach/organiztion is ENCOURAGING you to do so and you had no other choice; only then do I have the slighest sympathy. The rest of yea's, including you Hesch, you're unethical and greedy. Don't try to prance around and vindicate the idea through letters explaining how the EPO was ONLY for recovery purposes with no intent of using it to aid performance. It's insulting, and you along with the rest of the running scene know better.
At some point you have to become honest with yourself. Become part of the solution now, and join those who fight against cheaters like yourself. You owe it to yourself, your family, and more importantly, those whom you've stole money from. In addition, help clean up the sport and give USADA some insider info on who else is juicing.
Finally, I hope you learned and continue learning lessons through this, because although your definitely not the only one doing it, you were one of the more vocal and often jocular runners that gave the impression you were clean and hard working that gave runners like me faith that it WAS POSSIBLE, when in actuality, you were just a cheat.

Of course, this is probably the times misunderstanding what you were saying but EPO is of no value in speeding healing from injuries per se--unlike testosterone, other anabolics, HGH, etc.
Of course it does boost the fitness level of any athlete, and would allow a CH whose training has been interrupted by injuries to run the times only a perfectly fit CH had previously been able to run.
Not everyone feels that way. David Torrence just posted this on twitter with a link to the times article.

Actually there's a lot of gray area with your example and this (and any doping) case.
There is no gray area you idiot. He took a banned substance and got caught. A gray area would be taking something banned at a certain limit or yet to be banned performance enhancing drug.
His admission puts him slightly above the ones that blamed it on tampered toothpaste and never admit a thing. But he still claims that he "never raced on EPO but used it to recover from injuries".
Translation: I'm going to keep the times, the wins and the prize money from when I was doping.
His twitter feed makes good reading too... calling out other dopers and alleged dopers.

Noticed that Stephen Kasica, recent grad of Colorado and 1:49 800 guy wrote the article (if it is the same guy). Did he unearth this story? Quite a big deal to have an article go straight to front page of NYT website for a young guy like that.
