The result is misleading. German was 4th/5th for a large portion of the race trying hard to bridge the gap to the lead pack. He then faded. Bumbi tried as well and DNFed.

This can be additional motivation in the off season. Now he can get back to his training.
Agreed. Still a lot of work for him to do over the winter. I am sure his body is not used to this pace in mid september either.

He's out of shape obviously from 4 years of inactivity with Dave Smith.
The question is if he'll ever get back into shape again.
