The whole "crossfit guy could do (fill in sport here)" is complete crap because none of the crossfit competitors compete at other sports. If crossfit was such a revolutionary fitness program, you would see NFL training camps full of crossfit guys making the team. What kind of idiot would turn down the chance to be in the NFL and make crazy money to sit around in a gym all day and maybe win a few bucks at crossfit competitions?
People do crossfit because they are not good enough to do other sports. That is the whole point of having crossfit competitions is to create a venue for jocks who could not hack it in pro sports.
Too short for the NBA? Not strong and fast enough for the NFL? Can't throw or hit a 95 mph fast ball? That is ok. Crossfit has made up a sport for jocks who do not have the ability to succeed at real professional sports.
The reason crossfit is not a legit sport is because they just arbitrarily decide that certain skills are more important than others (lifting, mostly) and eliminate or diminish the things they are not good at (endurance events, fine motor skills/eye hand coordination, etc.).
If that is all you need to do to create a sport, then I would like Reebok to sponsor Drumlawrunolf. It is a combination of drumming, golf, distance running and the practice of law. You run two miles, play a par 3 (I do not hit very long, so I will make sure the golf part fits my skills), run another 2 miles, play parradiddles as fast as you can (my best rudiment) run 2 miles and then write a brief on a randomly selected issue in commercial litigation (again, my best area).
