It happened in PA. I'm a former HS teammate of Gabby's and everybody in town is completely devastated. It doesn't get worse than this, she was one of the most promising, not only runner, but person most of us have ever had the pleasure of knowing. How this guy has gotten in trouble just to be released days later is beyond us....
From what I read she seemed like a great person. May she rest in peace.
Pennsylvania had better charge this lunatic with something quickly and set a very high bail or get him into court immediately, because right now hes only being held on $1500 in NJ for a separate drunk driving incident, and hes already been out on bail 3 times this month after harrassing people at a golf course twice, stealing a car, and treatening a mcdonalds with an axe. and he managed to be involved in two traffic accidents, one fatal, over two days while out on bail. He is clearly a danger to the public and there is no way his bail should be that low.
So sad to have heard about this.
I hope this guy spends the rest of his life in prison. People like him are the reason my faith in humanity is stagnating, if not declining.
My condolences to the family first of all. What a tragedy. Now onto this loser. How on earth was he even on bail after all those incidences. Seriously after threatening people with an ax he was given bail. And how can he kill someone and not be held without bail. This is insane if it is true!

I feel a lot safer running (against traffic) than biking (with traffic), but you're never 100% safe running on roads.
Lots more people die on bike/car collisions, so these rarer runner/car accidents are sad.
Everything I've ever told and read is to run / hike against traffic.
This is so terrible. I can't believe this scumbag was out several times on bail. I can't believe he has the capacity to still make bail. Are they having trouble charging him?
Man this story sucks, the guy who hit her is an obvious dirtbag, but I swear, I don't know how many more stories like this we have to hear before people quit running on the freakin' roads.
Bike trails, parks, sidewalks, treadmills, indoor and outdoor tracks, etc. Anything but roads with traffic. To trust that all of those drivers will be watching out for you is insane.

Yep. Nor are there bike paths, or trails, or outdoor tracks, or indoor tracks. A lot of people don't have easy access to any of those things.

It is mind-boggling that this guy was still out on the streets after a string of legal incidents. Did they take it easy on him because he was a volunteer firefighter? This killing never should have happened. He should have been locked up at the time she was running.
So what's the deal here? Was this a hit and run? Seems like they didn't catch him until the next day. Why do they suspect him? And if they didn't catch him until the next day, how can they charge him based on toxicology reports. If this is the guy, he definitely belongs in jail for a long time. This is an awful story.
No, I don't think he hit and ran. He was caught at the scene and either wasn't arrested, or made bail. From there he drove drunk again and got into yet another accident the next day. This time he was arrested, but for an earlier unrelated incident at a country club.

I believe this guy did this intentionally and it was no accident...This dude was a highly unstable individual and should have been locked up after the McDonalds incident...who the f runs around with an axe in mcDonalds and then is not charged with weapons possession along with a laundry list of other charges....
She was running against traffic, He crossed the Double yellow lines and hit her from behind, there was absolutely no way to avoid something like this, why is this even a topic of discussion. Driving while drunk should carry stiffer penalties the fact that you can keep your license after doing something avoidable is ridiculous.
That's like doing cocaine and killing someone while high afterwords and then just getting the slap on the wrist and go home.
