He ran 3:46, meaning he was totally unequipped for that race regardless of pace.

I don't catch any "insinuation" of being a crybaby after watching the interview. He said he felt like he was hung out to dry in front, and indeed he was. Look at the difficulties of hitting that standard while leading a pack on a windy day before pointing any fingers...

Oh, so you have a crystal ball that allows you to see how the race would have turned out if it had been run differently? Cool!
He's a 3:36 guy with a good kick. There were a lot of scenarios that could have permitted him to finish in or close to the top 3...
I'm not trying to trash the guy. He just clearly wasn't ready to go that day. He was ten seconds back.

I'm not sure if that's necessarily true. He led during the gooey center of a fairly breezy 1500. That takes a lot out of you. I think that he'd have been in with a shout if he'd been able to tuck in during the first 1200m.
I mean, look how controlled and in control he was during the prelims. That doesn't just disappear in the final.
It didn't seem like a windy day to me. The women's long jump final was happening around the same time and the readings don't look overly windy. Very unlikely that it will be zero wind.
Link to interview? Editor's addition: LetsRun.com did an interview of Leer after the 1,500 final at USAs here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfLTR7DsgXw
How about this... His PR isn't anywhere near the time, he has had 1.5 years to get the time in and still hasn't, so no matter what he was not ready to go because he couldn't have run the time.
And he did complaint in one of the interviews, I don't remember which one, about not being able to chase the time
Leer ran 61 seconds from 400-800 meters on the lap he was supposed to hold 58 seconds for. He hung himself out to dry. Jmac led the first lap, he screwed up the second and when they started to run 59 second pace again on the third lap he couldn't keep up. This guy has one person to blame and that's guy in the mirror. (For the record, it was a perfect day for a good time during the 15. Wind was not an issue.)
I'm not going to criticize him, but you only get to tuck in for the first 1200m if you have the A standard before the race. Had he taken care of that detail before the trials, he'd have had a better chance.
also, jordan mcnamara was not making excuses or throwing anyone under the bus after the race either.

Will took the pace for mcnamara so he shouldn't be making excuses either way. And as for your comment about throwing people under the bus... grow up he didn't directly call anyone out. He was trying to be sincere about the whole thing, mickowski struggled to make it to the front of the pack... don't make him sound like we should feel bad for him because will leer "threw him under the bus" Bottom line he wasn't complaining, he rather handled the whole sitatuation well.

http://www.flotrack.org/video/645511-Will-Leer-Stays-Positive-and-talks-A-strategies-2012-Eugene-Olympic-Team-TrialsAll he said was that the pace didn't go again after the person who claimed that they were going to take it took it. That's not a complaint; that's an observation. Nobody "drove from 700 out" and it came down to a late kick.
Thanks to Jordan and Will taking it out hard, this was the fastest Trials 1500 final in quite some time...
I disagree. He was indeed complaining. He said he was happy with the overall first 700-800m pace, i.e., Jordan and he did their jobs. But then he said that A) the guy who said he would take over the pace(murkowski?) didn't come by. He said he was like "c'mon, come by!" but it wasn't happening. Then he said: "I was being hung out to dry." B) he says the guy finally DID come by, but then slowed the pace instead of picking it up.
So he was basically, at least in part, blaming that murkowski guy for not helping him out enough with the pace after he did and JMac did their jobs.
Lastly, he continued to complain about having to worry about the standard, instead of being able to chase it post trials.
So yes, it wasn't as bad as last year, but he still was whining a bit instead of just manning up and saying: yeah, I didn't have it today.
Here are his BS excuses from last year (this is classic):
blaming the wind, blaming the size of the field, blaming the pushing, blaming Lagat (saying he was not being a good sport, nor a "gentleman" because he slowed the pace), blaming the other fast guys for not pushing the pace, blaming the officials for saying he placed 5th instead of 4th.

I think that gopher clubber's point was that just because he only ran 3:46 in the final doesn't mean that he was "unequipped for the race regardless of pace." I don't think anyone - Will included - thinks that anyone owed it to the non-A folks to pace them to the standard.
If he hadn't tried to push the pace to go for the A standard and just hunted from the back as he seems to prefer, he almost certainly would have finished up with the pack of guys behind Centro, Leo and Wheating.
And to return to the main topic of the thread, he seemed to be in pretty decent spirits and give a fairly good interview in light of the fact that he'd just - moments before - finished last in the OT 1500 final...
Just watched the interview. Seems like a nice guy to me...

This. Will Crybaby Leer
lol the will leer haters are madddddddd. Look at you guys. Get outside today?
Watching the Army guy in his heats he was all over the place , kind of a goofy style bouncing back and forth in the lanes.
That said , Leer has been around long enough he should be able to deal with it.
Army guy was gutsy in the final.

He complained in a recent interview that his race was ruined because he was cut off and boxed by the Army guy. He insinuated that he would have made the team otherwise. I'm sorry but he planned before hand with McNamara that they would set a hard pace. J-Mac upheld his part of the deal taking it out in a 57 . Then Leer took the lead and SLOWED the pace! He dropped down to a 61!!!! The reason the Army runner paced you MR.Leer is because you slowed down!!! Much, much slower than A standard pace, which I may mention is what you needed to make the team!!!! Face it you are not a top 3 1500 runner in the US, that's why you didn't make the team. Whaaaaaaaaaah whaaaaaaaah!!!
I do declare that you sir, are a nanny pants!?!?!@$&@::("!??
Weird and creepy. Take a breath, will ya?
