And it's not like face-planting on a track is exactly fun. The road-rash should be penalty enough.
Even if you dive, it's still when your torso crosses the line that matters, not your head, shoulder, or anything.

Am I the only one that thinks that diving doesn't get you (your torso) to the line faster?
I agree with a caveat. When both feet leave the ground, only momentum is carrying you forward. You are adding no propulsion forward and your speed slows. However, as one poster stated, if you time a forward fall just right at the finish then you have three sources of forward propulsion: (1) your legs at still pushing on the ground forward, (2) the forward propulsion of hips and torso flipping your body forward, and (3) gravity through a fulcrum effect. That should be the fastest. Whether that is considered a forced fall or a dive is semantics.

even if they did dive they are trying to cross the line first ,like said in a previous post, and that tells you they are passionate enough about the sport to do whatever necessary to make the team (within rules and regulations of course because I know someone will mention something about performance enhancing drugs)

Porter definitely did not dive. Didn't see Batman's race. Porter said he planned to dive if necessary...it wasn't.
Looks extremely painful and seems very dangerous, especially for an elite sprinter running 25mph. I fell running about 7:30 / mile ( 8 mph ) on a tempo run two years ago and still have some minor scars on my knees almost two years later. I think if someone unintentionally fell hands / head first across the finish line, as long as they did not interfere with anyone else's safety or block another runner's path they should not be DQed. I think it would be good to make a rule to disqualify people who intentionally dove into the finish, just to not encourage people to do risky things and injure themselves. I'm not sure whether diving over the line would result in a faster time anyway, assuming they were not too injured to participate or at least be in peak form in the next round of competition.
holy fvck OP you are stupid. please remove yourself from the gene pool.
Seriously? I'm the first?
Well, OP, then I'm giving you 6/10. I would have given you no better than a 2--more likely a 1--but you were obviously able to get "fed" by a couple of dozen responders, and I have to adjust the score accordingly.
Quality work. Credit where it's due.

Ummm, your shoulder is considered part of your torso...
