Rupp went with over a lap to go. He led coming off of the top of the final turn when Lagat pulled even going into the final straight. Lagat then got a step on him with about 40m to go, but Rupp closed on him and got him by a few tenths at the line.
He also got Pre's Trials record.
Pure guts.
Why do runners want their champions to be emotionless? He celebrated less than an NFL guy scoring a touchdown and an NBA guy making a dunk. And he wasn't doing it in a show up way, pure emotion.

A VERY impressive race by Galen. I think the commentator quoted his last lap in the 52 range.........doesn't get much better even from the all time greats like Bekele and El Guerrouj.
I couldn't believe what I was watching as he and Lagat sprinted down the home stretch but no question, Galen is for real......a medal threat in the 5k and 10k.

I love this i hate people who show emotion. He wasnt classless at all. Its nothing different than the winner of the girls race. Galens pumped and so am i F**k YAAAA!!!!!1

52.54 last lap. He is VERY MUCH a medal contender showing that closing speed off of 13:30ish pace. That is likely how the Olympic race will be run, and he's shown he can throw a very serious Bekele-esque final lap down.
That was impressive, very nice race by Rupp.
I was struck by the straight on replay shot of the finish. Lagat had his normal crazy man finish face, Rupp looked reasonably relaxed. Think maybe he could've pulled off another Lomong lap if he had to.

Wow, remember when everyone thought Rupp had no speed? Remember in the old days when people thought a big kick couldn't be developed? Al Sal and Rupp are ridiculous.
Rupp had the lead with 200 to go. Lagat passed him coming off the turn. Rupp hung on and it looked like Lagat was going to pull away. With 50 to go Rupp started to pump and blasted through an opening on the rail. He powered through to the finish and all you could say was WOW. Lomong looked like an owl with his head turned back for most of the straightaway because he knew Bumbalough was right there.

Bekele used to do it off 13-flat pace. Rupp is in great shape no doubt.
That was not classless. Give it up. It was his first time ever beating Lagat. Give him a break! He won the OT 5k and got the monkey off his back. Let the man celebrate a little. Epic finish for him.
