what about aaron braun? he is not declared, but he has not scratched. He is not on the stat list, if he is not running why?
1. he has had a breakthrough year his 13:20.25 is barely off the A standard of 13:20.00
2. he just got 4th in the 10000, so he has nothing to lose by running the 5000.
3. with ritz and teg withdrawing he would be about 4th-6th on most formcharts the obvious favorites to make the team would be lagat, rupp and lomong, but who knows lomong may opt for the 1500 if long does both, he would have a 1500 heat about 3 hours beforew the 5000 final who knows how it would affect him.
4. is there any reason at all he should not give the 5000 a try?

Lagat is on another planet than Rupp. Precisely how many Oly/WC medals and wins does he need (to Rupp's big "O") to prove this to you? And exactly how hard does he need to kick down Rupp to show you?

How hard is it to finish races you start, start races you enter, or just scratch before the damned deadline?
Teg's delay shouldn't punish the next athlete on the list. I hope they let the guy in.
Huge chance for Webb to make the final now. And I agree it will be the faster heat.
Webb should make the final, but what's really important is the A standard. He needs to get that in the semi so he can just worry about racing in the final. Hopefully he can find someone to share work up front with him to insure 13:20 pace.

Lagat is 33 years old. That is all that needs to be said. Right now Rupp is probably in 12:55 condition. Whoever wins it will be a dogfight. This may actually be the best race of the trials. When is the 5k final?

Bernard Lagat was born on December 12, 1974. That makes him 37 years old.
And he was also 37 years old during this past indoor season when Rupp really took it to him, huh?

Lagat is looking great, so he definitely has the advantage over Rupp, despite being 37. If he medals in the Olympic final, would he be considered the GOAT as far as career longevity for a male 1500/5000 runner?
I think, however, Rupp is at the cusp where he will be able to kick with Lagat pretty soon. Maybe not this week, but possibly in a month and a half.

These guys fail to race then wonder why they can't string any credibility together on the bigger stage.

Webb false starts in the 5k, gets DQ'd, runs under protest, goes 3:31 for the first 1500m, falls apart, protests again, petitions the IOC, gets entered into the marathon based on a time he ran 5 years ago for a mile, and then he gives his spot to Adam Goucher and Goucher gets DQ'd for giving every African runner he meets the finger.
Teg has no class. He knew he wasn't going to run the 5K before he even entered it, and he took someone else's spot in the event. However, why does the field only have 24/25 guys in the first place? If there are going to be 16 in the final, why can't there be at least 14, even 16 guys in each semi?
At 37 nobody should be running that fast. Rupp will win the trials.
