If a B standard athlete wins the 1500m at the US Trials then that athlete unquestionably gets a 10/10.

Not a problem at all. the USATF deadline for hitting an A standard is The Trials so Paris would be irrelevant. Rules are pretty clear on this.

Nightmare scenario for the officials:
B standard athlete finishes in the top 3 but doesn't run an A standard time. The athlete then goes to Paris DL on 7/7/2012 and runs A standard just WITHIN the London qualifying window that goes until July 8.

Can you IMAGINE the stink that would occur if they did this, and the athlete's name was Alan Webb?
Wheating only has a B, 3:35.89 within the qualifying timeframe, but I believe his 3:30 PR is the best in the group. That's a lot better than a "shot in hell" IMO
Wheating has an 'A' from last summer.
If a 'B' were to pull a stunner, I think McNamara would be the most likely candidate.
Jordan McNamara is more than a candidate. He is like .08 away from 3:35.5 with his 3:35.63 on Saturday.
He has the skills to pay the bills. I would say a shoe-in if I was wearing shoes. This guys legit.
He needs that A though. And he won't chase it in the heats, he will chase the 15 standard in the final, hopefully hitting 3:35.49!!!
why don't they change the rules to how it is during WC's?
why can't they let them chase the standard till the london deadline?
