Why do any of you take offense to this? He's totally right. The majority of us have never run faster than 4.10 for the mile or sub 2.25 for the marathon. We're all old, wannabe, armchair quarterbacks. Having been here since the board started, it's like some kind of natural selection for fools. Actual and legit elites used to post here: Steve Scott, Marty liquori, Mogens Goldberg, Jim spivey, etc. Fools ran them off with anonymous accusations and stupid questions that they thought clever. The coach of some of the world's most elite Africans has to take a beating everytime he posts here. It's maddening, and absolutely ridiculous.
I don't think he was referring to every single person who posts in runners forums. He was referring to the haters. The ones who have nothing useful or respectful to say. The ones who come here just to shit all over other people's hard work and accomplishments because they're insecure about the fact that they suck. The ones who will turn on you in a heartbeat if you aren't winning or running as fast as they think you should.
Not everyone here at Letsrun fits that description. But many do, and those are the "rats" he's referring to.

win Boston in 1975-- " He 's wearing white tube socks that stretch up to midcalf". I seem to recall Rodger 's racing without socks. He also wore a new Balance white headband.
