Wesley Korir is a true class act. The guy needs to run for public office in Kenya. He has a great personality and looks out for the well-being of others. From cleaning floors and painting as a maintenance man, to starting a children's foundation, Wesley has done it all. Proud to call him a friend and former teammate at UofL.
Look out for his daughter McKayla in a few years. Wesley and Tarah are both incredible runners!
Really love this guy - every step of his story is incredible, and he seems to be very modest and down-to-earth.
His Canadian wife Tara McKay-Korir seems to put in a lot of training in Kenya and with their foundation, and is improving fast and tearing up the roads up north:
I admit it would be nice if Wesley would go for Canadian citizenship - even with the Canadian marathon renaissance going on he would immediately be our fastest man and probably make every WC and Oly team that he wants. It's probably yet another testament country that he won't, going instead for the much more competitive US, where his college running and other opportunities have come from.

Why?.he won a race in 2.12 .That is not a big deal if anything it was out of pure luck that he won.I have nothing aganist him as a person BUT i do not tolerate patronising bibke bashers e.g Ryan hall and Wesley Korir who go around acting as if they are saints and hollier than everyone else.They act as if evryeone else should bow to them.
Almost all the African runners are devoutly religious..

What? How is he acting like that? A person can be public about their faith without implying a thing about others, and Wesley is a good example of this.

There is not much luck in marathoning dude.
One thing that has been annoying is all of the people on here making up ridiculous stories about him. As people have said he was not invited to be an elite athlete in Chicago in 2008 but honestly he didn't deserve to be. It was his debut and being a Kenyan debutant with solid NCAA credentials is not elite athlete territory. He didn't bum a ride to the race with enough money for two subs at Subway and give one to a homeless man. He didn't run 2:08 and win, he ran 2:13:53 and was the 9th man across the line and 4th by chip time. He does work as a janitor but gets a ton of time off to train.
The subway sandwich story is completely true! Although Wes didn't plan on giving it to a homeless dude at first the guy just looked hungry so Wes gave it to him.

He has been one of my favorites since he won the LA Marathon in 2009. Then he repeated again in 2010. But since LR is run by East Coast f@ggots you don't see West Coast coverage unless it's Oregon.
I'm from Louisville and you all should believe the stories. No hype. Yes, he really did get his degree, work as a maintenance man, and fall in as an ad hoc tutor. Louisville is also a good place for heat/humidity training. Trust.
I am also from Louisville. It's cool that you can be out running the local parks and pass by Wesley as he's getting his miles in. Louisville isn't exactly a running mecca so it's nice to have a local running super star.
