Jason Hartmann Looks a Lot Heavier than 160

I'm 5'11" 175 and people always tell me I'm skinny! I bench 290 and run the half in 1:18.56. Not exceptional, but considering I'm a 49 400 guy and "big" for a distance guy pretty good. The point is even runners have called me skinny. Muscle density has a lot to do with weight and isn't always evident in a visual. I look thin yet my weight and strength is higher than people expect. Weight distribution and muscle density are factors that need to be considered and can't always be accounted for in a picture...

I don't care HOW much he weighs; all I know is that the guy was smiling at 25 miles! Great run Jason.

At 6-2 and just under 160 on some days, I look like a damn monster in just about every race photo. In packs of runners, my head sticks up at what looks like a foot above everyone else. I have long legs and broader shoulders, and I remember in one particular photo, I looked at least 200 lbs. I photograph poorly.

My parents, co-workers, and even girlfriends have called me "sickly" looking. So I guess the camera adds ten pounds.

There is this site I visit where a photographer posts photos of every local race. After one race, a guy I raced against (who apparently wanted to pace off of me since he knew my times) in a local 5K said to me: "You look so much smaller in person, I trouble deciding if that was really you and if I was pacing off the right guy."

I'm not surprised that people have claimed that Hartmann doesn't appear to be that big in person.

When I watched him walk by at the start yesterday, my first thought was that he chunked out and was just collecting an apearance fee. He looked chubby for an elite marathoner, but mostly in the face.

Obviously I know nothing.

Great to see Hartmann sticking with the sport, even as he goes his own way. Surprised to see a big guy do that well in the heat. Nice paycheck for 4th?
