How many people run who can run 28:30 (or whatever he ran) can't run faster than 8:50 for 2 miles? That 10k time is light years ahead of that 2 mile time

Webb's 3:53 is light years ahead of anything else he ever did in high school.

It has lasted thirty-six years, so no one has touched it in quite awhile!

That's actually pretty week considering his other credentials. If you look at a VDOT grid, he should be at 29:01 - all the other performances he have had correlate at or near that.

The grid is:

He's run:

Should be well under 29:42, so running that time is in no way a shocker, regardless of age.

As a senior, 76 (an Olympic year), Chapa concentrated on making the trials at 10,000m.

He had one real race at 2M -at the IPI, which he won easily in extreme heat.

The heat was so devastating that Salazar who ran 8:53.8 to win the Penn Relays could not break 9:00 minutes (9:01.2)!

Chapa’s prep 2M PR is misleading.

He could have been much faster and if he would have raced in a marathon, it would have really knocked your socks off.
