This isn't a high school kid we're talking about...He has run under 1:44 before. He has to work on racing speed which needs to be able to generate a 1:46 or so to even have a shot at making a decent showing in the mile/1500. so, speed work for Alan at this point is to get reacquainted with the tempo of big time races. 1:52 is hardly big time.

Webb has always demonstrated good leg speed, and maybe average foot speed. Does anyone know where he ranks in terms of toe speed? Would it diminish over a full mile compared to a 1500?

If you need a raise at work you should be the best in that field and i dont think that you cannot allow the juniors to beat you like that..If Alan Web is thinking about London, he should be running 1.47 now easy for him to be ready for 1500m. He looks like he's doing it for fun i case....

When was the last time Webb has run a 10K or Cross Country. Without the distance racing base, I doubt he will be a threat to anyone internationally or even nationally or even regionally.

He can't do the distance base anymore - he has a bad ham that gets aggravated above 60mpw. He has to make do with what his body can tolerate.

He is talking about training progression. I really think Webb needs to work on arm speed and hand speed during the winter.

I can pretty much guarantee, without really knowing anything about it, that Rudisha is in 1:47 shape right now, not 1:51 shape.

Of course, I know next to nothing about training cycles for 800m.

The one thing I know for sure is that Webb turned in a faster 800 today than did Solinskrap.

What you have described above is your typical southern bro (or 'fratastic' as it was called when I was in school). They are very common at most public and private schools below the Mason Dixon line and are usually spotted in packs of five or six. You qualify every one of your posts about a distance runner with: "I don't know anything about distance, but..." Instead of that, just don't post.

Rudisha's an 800m runner; Webb is a miler. But Webb is going to be ready to run 3:30/3:46 only when he is in shape to run close to 1:43/44. However, no reason to worry after he dropped 4 seconds in one race. Don't be surprised if he runs 1:49i the next time and then 1:47i. This is a guy who when healthy can drop huge amounts of time quickly as he did in the late summer a couple years ago. And that notion that Webb cannot run 60 mpw or above without hamstring problems seems bogus to me. Hamstring problems come from speed and power, and you can fix the hamstring tightness (if not super bad) with various exercises like backwards walking/jogging, leg lifts, and so forth. He was at his absolute best after working on his base mileage and he is very unlikely to touch his eight and fifteen bests without that base.

sprintgeezer had a meltdown after Solinsky got injured and gave up his spot at the 2011 World Championships. Apparently honest assessment of your current physical/medical condition has no place in sprintgeezer's system of morality.
