Who makes the olympic team if she can't even win a 1500 NCAA title? Maybe she'll just go out of her way to avoid the superior runner that is Sheila Reid. She has got to be one of the most underappreciated dominant college distance runners of all time.
In 9 days Jordon will be running in Washington, Seattle. She has the prelims on Sat and Finals Sunday...So, I guess what your implying is she will be doing something specials....

Hasay simply hasn't got the leg-speed to compete with other 1500m women at the Olympic level - if you can't run close to 2.00 for 800m (at least under 2.03), don't even consider the 1500m for the Olympics.
Hasay may have a shot at the 5000m, but if she isn't close to, or under 15.00 she shouldn't be able to make the US team - I can't believe that in a country the size of the US that their aren't more women under 15.00, not a good reflection of the coaching/development from the NCAA.

So you're saying that she is announcing that she is going to take her mother's Irish nationality and run the 5K for them (like Cragg did)?
Not redshirting is not a big deal if someone is truely an Olympic caliber athlete because an NCAA season will only include about 2 or 3 all out efforts. There are a lot of athletes who ran great late into the summer coming off of an an NCAA season. I think Jordan is goiong to run some good times this year; I'm predicting (4:07/15:10).
If Jordan comes off of the NCAA season beat up just means to me this is where she is in her development. Probably the biggest problem for Jordan is the fact that the USA milers are also capable of running sub-2 800s, which is a big advantage in a tactical race.

Since at least Beijing, probably earlier. (For races 400m and up, at least.) Didn't you notice in all the coverage of Anna Pierce's goals/denial she said her aim for the indoor season is to get the A standard in the 1500? Too bad the mile is so much more common indoors..

She makes clear she's gunning for a fast time in the 5k at Dempsey. I think everyone agrees the 1500 team is going to be one of the hardest to make -- even Hasay herself. Maybe she's shifting focus to the 5?
There are a few NCAA girls with Olympic hopes this year and reasonable shots. Hasay will probably opt for the 5000, which I think will be her best bet. I think she'll improve a LOT time-wise in the 5000 this year. She'll have some company from D'Agostino in the 5k. Not sure if Infeld will stick with the 1500 or go with the 5k.
Shelia Reid is, indeed, appreciated and was the favorite for the cross country championship that she won. Jordan Hasay will have to compete against Shelia Reid at the NCAA outdoor championships but will not have to compete in the Olympic trials against her, since Shelia Reid is Canadian and will compete for Canada. She probably has a better chance of making it to the Olympics than Jordan considering her ability and the fact that the competition in the Canadian trials will not be as difficult.
I think Hasay may even want to consider the 10k. With Goucher, Flanagan and Davila out it may be the easiest team to make of the distance events( other than the steeple of course)
Reid would seem like a lock to make the Canadian team. Didn't she win the 1500 at the Canadian T&F finals last year?
That is quite a tall order, that is, to qualify for the 10K. All she has to do for the 5K is 15:35 for the A standard or 15:50 for the B standard for the Olympic trials. Also, the Olympic A standard is 15:20. That looks like it is doable. However, she will be competing in the 1500 meters and the 5K, and how can she possibly compete also in the 10K, since the NCAA requires two rounds before the championships. I hope she only runs the 5K at the NCAA championships so she will be able to compete decently at the Olympic trials.
She has the Olympic trials A standard which requires only 4:12.93. If she gets pushed at the Dempsey she might be able to make the A Olympic trials A standard of 15:35. The Olympic trials A standard for 10K is 32:45 and 31:45 for the Olympics in London. That would be very difficult considering that she has yet to even run a 10K and with her commitments to the 1500 meters and 5K and to her UO track and field team.

Agreed. Sheila's also way better looking than Hasay.
Just to set a couple of posts here straight......Jordan's Mom is not Irish, she is from England. And if anyone thinks Sheila is more attractive than Jordan, then they are watching too much of the Ellen show.

I find it interesting that the poster says Hasay has no kick. Fact is, her kick is better than 99.9% of American female distance runners. Yes, her kick is not yet as devastating as that of Sheila Reid at the end of a 5K, but Jordan knows it and has the desire to keep getting stronger and faster. I cannot recal a young phenom like her who has had continued gradual improvement with hardly a setback for so many years. She is mentally strong, has drive and has talent...three traits that are hard to beat. Throw in the support that she gets from Eugene, and you do have a potential Olympic qualifier this summer. We shall see.
Shiela is a horseface with an HGH jaw.

Hasay won't even break 16 minutes in the 5k. That 300 Meter mess at UW is ridiculous.
With all the doubling she did last year, I don't think we saw the real Jordan Hasay. I think this is going to be a breakout year for her and it will be even more exciting with the home crowd cheering her on at the Olympic trials. She has a legitimate shot at making the top three, particularly if she chooses the 5K.
