Well unfortunately for you no one is talking about 600m on down. And no I do not have trouble with that concept. I believe that for a race like the 5k, it is much more beneficial to run 8+ laps LESS then to not have a bank - especially when the track is OVER 300m long.

And assuming they are equally as fast (which they aren't) then please explain to me why d3 has NCAA qualifying times that are 5 seconds faster on tracks that are 200m+ as opposed to BANKED 200m tracks?

That is so true. I remember watching Indoor Nationals at Indy in 1991 when Jonah Koech from Iowa State won in 13:35 on a mondo banked track and 13:49 was fifth and thinking how great of a college indoor 5000 that was.

And DII and NAIA both have a difference of exactly 1 second for banked vs oversized at 5K (a mere 2/10ths for 3K down). So is your argument that DIII must have it right? Maybe DIII does it because they are trying to encourage use of smaller tracks for qualifying? Who knows. NAIA, DII and DIII also have harder qualifying times for under 600m despite what the other poster pointed out about the oversized tracks tending to run slower at those distances.

Why should I have to explain DIII being a clear outlier to everyone else? Seems like if you want to use them as support, you should justify them being an outlier, not vice versa.

I thought it was more like 5 seconds. Looked online and tried to find the link for the standards but couldn't find them.

Also - don't you think 8 less laps in a 5k is significant? No you're not running with a bank - but that doesn't seem to be a problem outdoor does it (and a 307m turn is not that much more tight than a 400m turn, trust me).
