I don't know Mike Morgan, have never run with him or been a member of the Hanson's, to whom I think have a great concept and program going. When another Brian Sell comes along and blossoms it will be a good thing.

Don't go by Brian's time in 04' as anyone who knows the situation knows how that race went. Brian went for it versus being conservative or Clint would have never been in front of him, and I am sure even Clint knows that.
Burrel left McMillian over a year and a half ago to move to Tucson to attend Law School. Pretty impressive debut for a guy in law school. I believe he is back with his college coach from Georgia.

If they didn't have 5 finishers then they are not trying to do things the Hansons way.
Take several runners that everyone else looked past and train as a group and hopefully by adding depth to the field it will make EVERYONE better and maybe even produce an Olympian from the group every now and then.
It seems to me like Americans have never been faster and that the Hansons have had a couple of Olympians. Huge success for the Hansons on achieving both of their goals.

Yeah I'm such a Hanson's fan and their women have been doing great lately. On the mens side, they lost a lot of draw once Sell left. I mean it's a tough debate because they've obviously produced results, but I'd agree they're training methods and philosophies are very out of date.

You can't make a 2:16 guy run 2:10 if he's not capable of doing so. Honestly, it's that simple. Rizzo, Humphrey, Morgan, Sage, Verran, Johnson, etc....do you really believe any of these guys will produce great results, except maybe 2nd in a local marathon? And yes, I know Rizzo is gone and Verran is old and Luke is old, etc... Get new talent or produce with someone new who IS capable of running those times.

I don't know for sure, but I think the list is very short.
None of you guys ever thought BRIAN SELL was going to run 2h10' and make the Olympics and place Top 25.
The history is there to take a 28' 10,000m runner and train him to the Olympics, but it takes that special athlete (like Sell and Davila).
Flanagan and Goucher had previously been on Olympic Teams with other coaches. So nothing of note there. All 3 men have alreay been Olympians. Only one new Olympian made the marathon team this year. Congratulations to the Hansons and Desiree for bringing some new blood to the marathon.
Or are we ignoring the Olympians and going with depth. Did any other group score less than 62 points across their top 5? Or are we using qualifiers to measure success? 16 Hansons athletes qualified.
I also believe that 5 Hansons runners had personal bests this weekend.
No matter how you keep score, it was a great day for the ALWAYS relevant Hansons-Brooks Distance Project.

I am not "help", but I don't think you understand what most of this thread is about. Desi and Sell?, no one is a saying one bad word about them or there coaches, the Hanson brothers. The point as I see it over the last page or 2 is that none of the guys who ran had any chance of finishing in the top 3 with this trials field. Who blamed Kevin or Keith for getting Desi there or getting the guys to run to the best of their abilities? No one, unless you have and I missed it. Brian Sell went into the trials with a much better pr than any Hanson runner who ran on Saturday. So I'm not sure what you mean as it's a moot point, kinda like comparing apples to kiwi?
The title of this thread is praising other coaches for having athletes that ran well in Houston and claiming that the Hansons ar5e done. That is just NOT true.
