That since the meet isn't in Hengelo(Hermans hip pocket), they are not able to shoot him up with EPO before. Hence, he will run 26:35ish.

Couldn't agree with that any more.
26.15 - quite frankly distance running is becoming chemically fueled fiction.[quote]I think wrote:

EPO: I'm not sure the effects are that short lived.
Personnally, i don't think he'll do it without the help of Geb or Gebremariam or Sihini. A Kenyan wont pace - look what happened in milan on monday. Will Geb pace KB to his WR - I dont think so. Will Sihini or Gebrem? perhaps but there may come a time after 6k when BK starts thinking about assuring victory and not the time. I think he'll fail.
By bet 26'35.
From what I have read about EPO, it is not a thing that acts on the body instantaeneously. EPO is a hormone that signals the bone marrow to crank out red blood cells....this is a process that takes a couple of weeks, as the immature RBC's, called Reticulocytes, take a while to mature into fully-functioning Red Blood Cells.
I think that if the Ethiopians are doing something a bit naughty, they probably have something a bit more sophisticated than EPO.
Ostrava, as a World-Record Setting track, is a big unknown. Outside of Hengelo, Brussels, Oslo and Rome, very few really superfast times are run. The only other two tracks where world records of 1500-10000 meters have set in the last 12 years are Rieti (Komen's 3000 and Ngeny's 1000) and Helsinki (Geb's 5000).
Obviously for a race of 10,000 meters, pace-setting, weather and wind are going to play a factor.
Still, I think that Mr. Bekele will do it.
My prediction is 26;19.80
Jason
Why doesnt Geb pace him? I think by now he knows his reign on WRs is gone so why not help his countryman out and pace him up to like 8 or 9k. Hes one of few people who could do it and he could jog it in from there and still run very fast.
don't forget morcel's wr on the rieti track. it's super fast- one of the last "non-mondo" hard tracks.
I think 26:12
On the contrary, the track has been building a reputation as a fast one, or at the minimum, a fast meet (which is probably the case with Hengelo). Last year the winning times were 1:43, 3:31, 12:48, and 8:06st. The third and fourth fastest womens steeple times (9:20 and 9:21) were both set there which, at the time, were both world records, and pretty much solo efforts.
Also, there are a quite a few other tracks where WR's were set in the last 12 years to add to your list: Morceli's 1500m WR 3:27 was done in Nice, his 2000m was set in Paris, his 3000 was in Monaco. ElG got the 2k record in Berlin. Komen and Gebr swapped 2M world records in small meets in Finland I believe. Also, Bernard Barmasai got the steeple record in Cologne, or one of the smaller German GP meets. And finally Zurich has had 2 5k WR's and 2 or 3 steeple WR's over the last decade or so.
25.58
25:43.....he's gonna super-dope for this meet!
Well epo schmee-po, if he wasn't running at a high level everytime he steps on the track I would believe it. But he is at a level no one is at.He has only scratched the surface, and I do think he can go under 26:00.

25:33
Didn't hear that, but I did hear that he was tearing up the Ethiopian team to pieces. Maybe that was one of the workout he had done. Geb. has been nursing a hamy, it will be interesting in the Olympics.
Good question, who the hell is going to be able to pace him. Maybe an ethiopian teamate, its kind of crazy that there are so few people who can actually pace him.
It won't be possible this time. However, he will do it very soon. He is great.

Not true. You're forgetting Zurich: 2 WRs at 5000; 3 in the 3000SC; and a bunch of almosts at 1500/mile since '92.
I have no doubt that he will take it down, it is his favorite distance and the one he'll run in the Olympics.
Ah but the weather and the pacing control all of the attempt.
The guy is crazy. I can see him doing something nuts like running his last 5k in the 12:40's

I was just informed by a european collegue that Bekele will attempt a wr for the 10k at: Ostrava
He's on the list of entries, but no one has commented on it. I figure he can go under 26:22 probably 26:15 or less on a good day. Any guesses out there?
I don't know how fast Kenny will run but he'd better 'be careful'.
