Centro 30:05 at a turkey trot

He ran a minute faster than my best Turkey Trot 10K and his 1500m PR is less than 8 seconds faster than mine.

Seems about right to me.

Just about exactly, he dropped a 30:01 for 10th place.

Not too shabby. Good for him that Cam Levins didn't show up else he would have been looking at a 1+ minute defeat.

Is it possible that when they toed the line they set off their timing chips? If it was a race where they had them stand two steps back and then called them up to the line just before the gun, it's possible that when they toed the line they stepped on the timing mat or close enough to it. That would explain why three people who started at the front all had faster clock times, but they all had a different differential.

Besides that, it looks like about 15 guys in the front cheated at the start. I would have been all for a mass disqualification.

Some of your guesses were close, but even if the front runners were within 10ft of the mats, they would still be 'reading'. Got any more guesses on what happened?

Answer: From the looks of it, the timing company didn't ignore any times before the gun. This is very dangerous and can usually lead to a lot of larger issues (I bet you can find other if you look closer). There are two ways they can do this, one should be in their scoring software, or they can simply do this in simple client (tag server). Hope they fix it...

Do you honestly believe that? Roads are almost always going to be faster than a cross country race. Obviously it depends on the road course or cross country course, but just the difference between running on grass as opposed to pavement will make the roads at least 30 seconds faster. Cross country courses will also typically have more hills and definitely more turns, but again it depends on the course. My road pr is 29:19, track pr is 29:26 (only ran it twice on the track) and my cross country pr is 30:12.

The road pr was on a certfied course that had nice long straightaways and only a couple of small hills. I only ran the 10 twice on the track and that pr should be faster as a track race is obviously faster than roads or cross country, but I was a mid-distance guy and 25 laps were too much. Cross country 10k was only run around 10-12 times, but some of the courses were flatter.

I am guessing Centro was not running hard. A runner of his caliber, even in the off season, should be running 29 flat or under if the weather is decent.

30 minutes on the road for someone of his ability is slow

i was a halfmiler and pretty much would run under 30 any time of year. When u r sub 4, piling up 4:40 miles is something u can do all day. In fact it gets a little boring and u end up usually doing some fartlek.

IF you were a half miler (meaning it was your best distance) and you could run under 30 minutes any time of year, then you must have been an elite half miler.

not for everyone

on the track i was a tall runner with a long stride, the constant imbalance made me much slower. On the road i could carry much more momentum and could run 2 minutes faster than the track. Not just one race or course but all the time i was far faster. If you are turning out sub 70 second laps there is definite muscle imbalance in turning left constantly for 10K
